2009 Fabia 1.2 HTP uneven running/losing power

Featured Replies

Morning all.

Longtime lurker and beneficiary of your knowledge as I am not really au fait with cars, so thanks!

I recently left the motorway after a long journey and my car began losing power, which I hadn't noticed earlier. The symptoms were lumpy tickover and a loss of power, especially when trying to accelerate in city traffic. The heavier the foot, the less it liked it.

The cam chain is probably worn anyway and  was sounding pretty noisy with some unusual whirring in the engine. I decided to have the car serviced anyway as I believe the tension adjuster is oil-fed and the level was looking low.

Now the engine sounds much smoother but the power weakness is possibly even more evident- ie. Lumpy tickover and failing acceleration even in the two-minute drive from Kwik Fit.

Before I take it to the more expensive independent VAG specialist (Peter Norris, Brixton, who I don't yet fully trust), would anyone be kind enough to comment?

Thanks again!

The cheapest and fastest way to find what is wrong with the engine is to diagnose it yourself with a VCDS scanner/interface/cable or ask for diagnose from a forum member that has a scanner and lives around you.

Thanks, Ricardo. Is that something different from the fault scanner they use in the garage normally?

I'm in Dulwich, btw! 😎

Yes, but nevertheless it does the job perfectly.

See this topic to ask for assistance with diagnose from forum members.
