Buying my first new car, Scala.

Featured Replies

Hey everyone, so I'm actually buying my very first brand new car, it's going to be the 2020 Skoda Scala Ambition trim 1.0L 70kw or 95hp. Any thoughts and or opinions about the car you guys want to share, your likes and dislikes please. Thank you I really appreciate it.

Hi fellow Slovak :)

It's been a month since your post, but I stumbled upon it today and I want to congratulate you on your choice - and on your first car!

I have ordered a Scala myself in January, should be delivered in March (replacing my current Fabia Mk3).

Hey there Slovak comrade, yeah I ordered the 1.0L 70kw 5M. Should be coming this March as well. The Scala has nice large boot area, so its great for families.

Yep, upgrading due to larger boot space too, for family trips.

I ordered Scala Style 1.0L 85kW DSG. Just a few days before I placed the order, the "Lava Blue" color became available for Scala, so I ordered that one, I love how it looks and now I will have one of the first Scalas made in it!

The dealer was actually surprised to see that in my order, it was only then that he learned of the availability of the color for Scala :D

Note for UK readers: the color is called "Petrol Blue" in UK.

Hi guys, I ordered mine (also Lava Blue) a few weeks ago - should be home by the end of March 🤩

It is my first non-second hand car (I own Skoda Fabia, MK1). I spent quite a lot of time thinking about a new car, reading reviews and watching youtube - I think I have seen all English, Czech & Slovak Scala reviews on Youtube that are currently there 😂 I was considering buying a second hand VII Golf, but then I rather went for a new Scala.

I ordered Scala Style 1.0L 85kW manual (petrol), with plenty of extras (electric tailgate, virtual Cockpit, KESSY  ...). I was a bit worried about the power of the engine, but got the 1.0L 85kW for almost 1h to try and was more than satisfied. I tried it on a highway (me + 2 passengers), I took the slow lane on a decent steep hill with approx. 120km/h on the speedo and then I accelerated and tried to overtake cars in front of me. This kind of manoeuvre is absolutely impossible with my 1.2 HTP Fabia 😅 but Scala did manage it well - the acceleration was quick and we reached around 160km/h when I was passing the last cars we were overtaking.

Really looking forward to have it home, the days are somehow too long after I made the order 😂

Yeah, I feel your pain, the waiting seems so long :D

I ordered some extras too, electric tailgate, wireless Smartlink, but not the virtual Cockpit, although I wanted to, it would get too far over my budget, so sadly... And the same applies to heated windshield, although if it was the newer type, with conductive layer, I would have gotten that.

Kessy was included as standard in our Slovak version of Style model.

Nice choice guys. I have mine for 3 months and i am very pleased.

The interesting thing is that since i purchased mine, Skoda removed some standart extras and made them optional (in Bulgaria). I blame cost-cutting

And which engine do you have?

1.0 with 85KW/115HP.

That's what I ordered too. How satisfied are you with it? Does it have enough power for the weight of the car?

The power is adequate. There is some hesitation with sudden acceleration but it is to be expected. The sport mode in the DSG helps a lot when travelling through more challenging roads and if you have sporty style of driving

There was a period of readjustment after driving a car with double the torque :)

Oh I can imagine that :D

Based on your description, it is on par with my current 1.0 TSI 81kW engine on my Fabia Mk3. Thanks.

Haha. When I configured Scala in the Skoda configurator, I did not put the Virtual Cockpit in - the reviews I'd seen did not find it worth the extra money. Later we found the 'Connectivity' packet that contains the wireless Smartlink, Skoda Connect, wireless charging, DAB & VirtualCockpit. We had the first 4 in our 'want to have' list anyway -> the VirtualCockpit was then 'only' ±150EUR so we went for it. I did not want the heated windshield (if all the windows were heated, it would make sense to me, but with only the windshield being heated, you have to do the 'cold work' on the rest of the windows anyway 😎), but wifey was really really really wanting it 🙋‍♀️😍 so it was added in 😁Nice that you got KESSY for free, the Czech Style (SE) trim does not include it and if you buy it outside a packet, it will cost you almost 200EUR 🙄

I ordered the 70kw 5M engine, hopefully it was a good choice. I drive a Fabiq Mk1 40kw  and let me tell you overtaking is sonetimes very risky. Hopefully the 70kw engine will be better. Plus its turbocharged.

Our Slovak Scala does not have Connectivity package, otherwise I would have gotten that. The things you mention in it are available separately, wireless charging is actually by default in Style option.

I think you will definitely feel the difference, it's 75% more power.

Did you get the Style package with the full LED lights in the front and back?

Yes.

Just now, PeePay said:

Yes.

I ordered the Ambition package, with the Sunset package and the radio bolero upgrade, I wish I got the full LED's front and back, but they wanted almost €1000 for just the front lights, it was a bit too much.

Yeah, most of the really fancy things were in the Style option, and still I bought some extras and still I didn't get all of what I wanted. But most.

Oh wow yeah, it all does add up doesn't it? Where in Slovakia are you from if you dont mind me asking?

From the western part, let's say, without sharing too much online.

Matter of interest how do the prices between the UK and Slovakia compare? Are we expected to pay more in the UK?

Oh yes, very much so. I was actually surprised by how much!

I checked the UK prices, compared several models (in the SE L trim) to their Slovak counterparts and the differences were between 30-50% !

For example, my Scala costs 22000€. I configured one with the same specs and extras on the UK site and it was £26000, i.e. ~30000€.

It probably has to do with significantly lower GDP and wages (and thus purchasing power) in Slovakia, compared to the UK.

Also, the extras quite add up. In Slovakia, Škoda offers several selected extras combined into one discounted package, in the UK you need to pay them all in full if you want them added to your configuration, so that drives the price higher.
