Spare wheel kit?

Featured Replies

Got my new Octy vRS 245 arriving on Friday; just wondering where the best place to get a spare wheel (kit?) is? I'm assuming that the car doesn't come with a jack and while there are spare wheels advertised about, I'm conscious of getting one that'll clear the calipers.

I assume the dealers will sell one off the shelf but I suspect they're not the cheapest?

Cheers

The tools kit and foam insert are relatively cheap from a dealers, around £40.

Take your pick on the wheel, full size don’t quite fit and lift the lower floor up. A used space saver off the bay is usually cheapest way to go at around £50 each. Some folks don’t like space savers as they don’t trust them. However, it still holds the corner of the car up and will allow you to finish your journey or get to a tyre shop before being bunged back in the boot waiting for the next flat tyre event.

As one of those that doesn't really like space savers as I don't like sticking whatever tyre the nearest place has in stock, I pick my tyres carefully and replace them with the same, not always in stock everywhere you might need them. Running around on a 125 tyre until I get one doesn't do it for me, especially as one of the things I like about the octy is it has a good size spare tyre well.

You can get a 6.5x17" steel like this ,fit a full size 205/50 tyre to it and sling in any old jack kit in the middle. It fits over the vRS brakes and doesn't lift the boot floor. (supports it quite well) You are still governed by the 50mph rule but it has a bit more rubber on the ground if you are fully loaded or can't get tyres just around the corner.

If you are after the cheapest option then I'd go with what what was said above, but a full size wheel is an option that some may prefer.

I have a 18" OEM Gemini wheel with a 225/40/18 in the spare wheel well and it fits perfect, the floor hasn't lifted. I have trimmed the foam insert to make it fit properly. A 19" Extreme with a 225/35/19 tyre on will also fit in the wheels well
