How to replace rear springs suberb II estate

Featured Replies

I need to replace the rear springs as the wrong ones were fitted in the summer by a french garage. I understand the easiest way is to  remove the rear wishbone pinch bolt to lower the wishbone but that the bolt needs replacing afterwards.

Form another post here I found that the OEM part numbers for the bolt and nut are  N106 286 02 & N101 064 02.

But searching for those in autodoc, europarts, bycarparts etc doesn't find anything for N106 286 02 and N101 064 02 usually brings up the  bolt for the front suspension.

Does anyone have the correct part numbers for the rear pinch bolt or better still, can give me a link to where I can buy them.

Of course if the wisdom is that they don't need to be replaced that's better still!

Adding a bit of info. This is for a 2012 superb II estate 170 bhp.

A lot of that got discussed in this thread:

Yes, That's where I got the part numbers from but I can't find them anywhere. (although haven't tried a dealer yet as don't want to take out a second mortgage)

Searching for N101 064 02 on https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-part/n91047502-screw-m14x1-5x95-skoda-10956.html

brings up a bolt but it says its oem N 910 475 02    or N910 475 01, which don't match the number in the thread above or the one I searched for.

Also the description says "Bolt for connection of the upper arm (wishbone) and rear axle wheel housing bearing, track rods and rear axle steering knuckle."

but I need the lower bolt.

Is this the right one though?

They may be dealer only parts. They were not that expensive from my local dealer - less than €10 IIRC. There's a possibility it's superseded by a newer part number - I'm fairly sure I got the p/n from one of the online ETKA knockoffs and it's not unusual for parts to be superseded in production. I'll see if I can dig out the invoice when I get home later and check what they supplied to me.

Thanks, very kind

I wouldn't get hung up on replacing the bolts, I've never known a dealer ever replace them.

Ah, in that case I'll just get on with it then. I've never replaced them on any other car I've done. Probably taken me longer looking for the super duper skoda bolts than it will simply doing the job. Thanks everyone.

This spring compressor might help. I've never tried it so I don't know if it will work on your car. But if you have enough access to the rear springs it might work. It's actually made for compressing the spring on a mcpherson strut.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ENVA-SPRING-COMPRESSOR-FOR-MC-PHERSON-STRUT-SHOCK-ABSORBER-SYSTEM-UP-TO-1000-KG/372854972976?hash=item56cfe36230:g:eWEAAOSwgFld-K28

I've tried removing the springs with a McPherson strut type remover and there isn't enough room to use them. The lower wishbone is a good bit wider than the spring and gets in the way of the screws on the compressor. The tool recommended in the service manual for the job is a side-clamp type compressor which tends to be much more expensive, and generally bad value for the DIYer compared to replacing two bolts.

On reusing the bolts, it's not ideal. The locknuts used are a deformable type - they're made slightly oval and as they are screwed on the oval is stretched out by the bolt and the extra clamping force that generates locks the nut in place. Once they have been used once they'll never clamp quite as tightly again and you run the risk of them working loose over time. For the sake of a tenner it's worth replacing them IMO for the peace of mind you get.

Apologies on digging up the old thread but this may help others. I was looking for the bolt part number as replacing our rear coil that's broken and couldn't find it, but had a check of the parts diagram here https://www.lllparts.co.uk/en/product/hex-collared-bolt/mpn/N10628601

I  believe that the bolt is actually part number N106 286 01 I believe which is why it doesn't appear. I think it's a typo in the original post chimaera?

If bought as a set it's a bolt that's M12X1.5X75 and a M12 locking nut

N10106402/N10628601

Part numbers listed above to help with any people arriving here on Google searches!

N10628601 and N10106402 are numbered 21 and 22 in the diagram below.

part code title note quantity data model information
    wishbone
axle guide
wheel bearing housing
rear   fr.wheel drv
21 N  10628601 hex collared bolt M12X1,50X75 2
22 N  10106402 hexagon collar nut self-locking M12X1,5 2
