1st proper clean of my vRS - 56k beware

Featured Replies

Well I managed to forget to switch my alarm off......

So this morning as was up as if it was a normal work day for me, saw the sun shining and thought rather than waste it I would take the opportunity to give my Octavia vRS it's first proper clean since I bought it.

What a lovely morning......

The vRS has now covered just over 1,000 miles and was stating to look a little sorry for itself....

So I started off by rinsing off all the bodywork with an open ended hose.

I don't have a pressure washer so I can't foam shampoo -- but I gave it a go, with a hozelock pressure spray bottle(the type used for weedkiller) - it did quite a good job - I used the remains of some meg's gold class shampoo for this....

SK06DAW072.jpg

SK06DAW073.jpg

I then rinsed again using the hose, and washed the car using the 2 bucket method and some PB slicknsuds - rinsed again and dryed with a waffle weave microfibre cloth.

Next step, was to remove all the wheels and give them a proper wash..

SK06DAW095.jpg

They certainly needed it !!

SK06DAW082.jpg

SK06DAW083.jpg

Once I washed them I dried with a meg's microfibre towel - next step was to apply a coat of Klasse Allinone polish..

SK06DAW089.jpg

SK06DAW086.jpg

Once that was buffed off next stage was to apply Poorboys wheel sealant - what a difference it makes, the flake in the paint really pops..

SK06DAW100.jpg

The same process was applied to the brake calipers...

SK06DAW101.jpg

With the wheels back on, the next step was to wax the paintwork - I used clearkote carnuba wax - very easy to apply and remove. I'm very happy with the results..

The final step was to clean the exhaust..

It took me just over 7hours starting at 7:30am and finishing just before 4pm - straight through - no breaks :doublesho

My back is killing me and I'll be walking like 90 yearold in the morning......but it was worth it :D

A big shout out to polishedbliss -- fantastic products

Looks great!

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT NUMBER PLATE DONE? I love the graphics and the Briskoda badge

Looking fantastic....

Must invest in some of this stuff from polished bliss, seems to work. 7hrs though ..... ouch, you don't fancy doing mine do you :D

Nice job, I can't believe you took the wheels off! that's dedication for you!

I hopefully wont need to do it again for quite sometime -- giving the wheels a proper polish and then sealing them should mean they will stay a lot cleaner and be easier to clean.

Crikey - I give mine a wipe with a damp Flunkey!!

I wanna see a pic of the vRS on four axle stands. :D (assuming you had all the wheels off at the same time?)

Looking very clean but 7 hours is too long, even for me.

Crackin' job on the car but if you'd cut the lawn it would have been tidier all round!!!!!

WOW, nice job mate.

And love the number plates too.

Double :thumbup::thumbup:

I've spent that long cleaning my car before, its long overdue a repeat treatment though :o Infact, mine is looking so bad I need professional help. :thumbdwn:

Wow, that looks great. I was planning to wash my two week old Octavia vRS this weekend but need to invest in some decent materials first. I'm not sure whether I'll take the wheels off though.

It's already been mentioned but yes the number plate is cool.

Very Very Very niiice!:thumbup::D

The car's looking fantastic.

7 hours?!!!! That's a bit too O.C.D for me mate.

Looks cracking Dave. And yep, that numberplate is superb

I think I may have overdone it a little -- my back feels like its made out of balsa wood - and my head hurts everytime I move.

Still the idea behind all the hard work is that it should be a lot easier to keep it tidy in the longrun.

@Jason...

1 Wheel at a time, sad thing is - if I'd waited till tomorrow I could have used a ramp at work -- no bending and all four wheels at once

Mind you - I am meant to be working tomorrow !!

I know :o - it's next on the list. Hopefully will be done on Monday

I managed to give mine a good clean today too. Easter weekend, warm, dry and sunny, too good a chance to miss. Quick wash and rinse, chammy off, then 3 part system polish from Meguires. First cleans the paint down to a dry grime free base. The second applies a good coat of polish and the third seals it all with a coat of wax. You do get odd looks from the neighbours, as they wonder why you are doing it 3 times !. Took about an hour each coat, plus plastic black trim. The end result is fantastic, and is easy to keep that way by using the quick wax system on a regular basis.

Took some pics but they are too large to upload to this site. Can e-mail if anyone is sad enough to want to see another Octavia.

Also painted the house exterior window frames, and cut the grass too. I've now got 2 more days of the bank holiday weekend to relax !

I've been wondering what to seal my paintwork with now its polished -- I used to use Autoglym extra gloss and found it to be very good.

I always use photobucket.com for my pics -- it saves having to store loads of large pictures on my PC.

Lordy! and I thought I was a clean freak (about three hours every Saturday). Beautifull job mate. Well done

Looking good, fair play to you...7hrs

What did you use on the exhaust ? One of the lads near me had a lovely 147 with twin exhaust on the back, he recommends Autosol.

what do u use on your tyres? i find autoglym etc lasts a day on the tyres, then im back to square 1! :(

A combination of Autoglym metal polish and Klasse All in One acrylic sealer - I'm waiting to see how that holds up

I used poorboys natural look trim cleaner on the tyres -- with 1 coat it just blacks and cleans them-- no shine and no spray onto the bodywork. It can be layered on to get a shine, but I just prefer them to look clean.

Have just watched 5th gear, there was a car valeter on there who has a 65 step car washing plan that costs

Yes I saw that too -- for a guy that's meant to be a pro -- he was only using 1 bucket -- having now switched to the 2 bucket method - I would never go back, you wouldnt believe the colour of the rinse water - even when the car doesnt look that dirty!!

Turtle Wax Premium Tyre Dressing in the dark green bottle seems to last for ages on the wheels for me and it's a rub on rather than a spray too :)
