Android Auto question.

Featured Replies

I've gone and bought a JVC head unit for my other car an MX-5. It functions should be Android auto Carplay etc.

It works beautifully with Carplay but not AA. Had to hook up my wifes iPhone to test it but I own a virtually new android phone (Motorola MotoG7 power) but that just won't work with the head unit, perfect with Bluetooth for music just can't get any apps up and running.

Now the big problem it seems after reading up is the latest updates Google have made to AA, some have said it's stopped working in the cars from around December last year. Changing USB leads may solve it, well I've tried 2 and still no go.

So anyone with any suggestions apart from buy an iPhone? 🙄 I'd go that route but as said I've got a decent phone which should easily run AA wondering if anyone had tried a fix and it works with a similar set up?

Maybe try a different Android phone (that's known to work on other AA headunits) or see if there is a firmware update from JVC?

I've done the update on the unit, also tried another phone which brought no joy.....but!

I'm pretty dam mad with myself although confused at the same time. I've been trying to make my steering wheel controls operate so fiddled about with the leads and have now succumbed to purchasing a different patch lead, that's in the post.

Meanwhile back to the other leads and bingo found out why AA won't work, the hand brake cable needed hooking up from the unit. After that after a couple of attempts by the unit to connect it finally did and it's all up and running  from my android phone👍

I'm still confused why Carplay connected without the hand brake cable connected🤔

Handbrake cable? Never heard that one. The usual one is that AA needs the app installed but carplay is built in.

From the back of the head unit are various cables marked rear camera, steering wheel remote, mic etc. Another one is termed parking brake sensor, it connects to the handbrake warning light (cable) Until this was wired in the Android Auto wouldn't operate, Carplay would without it connected.

There is a function within Android Auto that requires you to be standing still, car in neutral and with the handbrakes pulled on when you first setup the system, hence why you need the sensor to be there, installed and working....because Android Auto checks these things!

Hi just to add, iI also have a Motorola phone, decent spec but after checking it's not supported by Skoda. Does anyone have a Motorola phone that connects to AA? I like Motorola as similar to Skoda you get a lot of kit for the money without paying for a premium badge.

My Motorola G6 did, twice, but then stopped working - The car just doesn't recognize that there is a device connected to the USB port anymore..

This will be either a USB mode setting on the phone or it will be a power saving issue on the phone itself stopping the usb port from working.
