Octavia 2 fl scout or 4x4 egr replacement?

Featured Replies

Anybody have any knowledge on replacing the egr on the octavia 4 wheel drive variants?

I've searched for info and can only find details on fwd cars, I've e first hand experience of the tight confines near the transfer box below the egr system and presume that it'll severely hamper or restrict thebremoval of the egr cooler in the normal fashion? Can the engine be manipulated enough on or off the mountings to gain access from above or will it come out the bottom without taking the tranfer box off - thats a real pain ?

Car is a financial write off otherwise as not worth paying a garage to do it and or having to take the engine out - its done almost 200k but otherwise ok with recent dmf, timing belt and water pump, new discs and pads, and usual suspension bushes etc.

Its a second family runabout - now redundant due to a new Fabia arriving tomorrow, so just exploring options rather than accepting the main dealers low flying trade in offer!

Many thanks!

Mine was replaced by a Skoda garage. It's harder to get to in the scout / 4x4 versions (takes longer), but it's not an engine out job. I think it would have cost about a grand from Skoda, maybe half that from an independent.

Mine was done free due to the emissions "fix".

Thanks sandpiper - new Fabia collected today, so the Octy is on the sidelines until I either repair or sell as spares or repairs, I've had the bother of re installing the gearbox and transfer box 3-4 years ago and remember at the time thinking I should change 'that' as it's really tight.
