VC retrofit

Featured Replies

I managed to source a used VC from a wrecker with low miles.  Is it possible/easy to do a retrofit?

Do VC have component protection? Is easy to transfer mileage and setting ?

I’m currently running latest MIB2.5 Columbus which I believe is compatible with VC integration.

some info here......

@SashaGrace has done a VC retrofit to her Octavia - I imagine that a good chunk of the info/components etc. will be similar to the Superb.

She'd be good to talk to/message at least!

You cannot change the mileage on used clusters. I know only one person who has fitted a used cluster and it has presented a lot of faults. It’s better to use a new one but either way you will need ODIS-E and GeKo access to adapt the keys, CP, ABS, Immo and steering angle sensors (also mileage on a new cluster) and you will need a fibre optic connection to the radio and VCDS level coding to adapt that for map transfer and the gateway for the view panel tab.

Thank you Sasha, Sounds very complicated. I have been told that you can fast forward the mileage on used VC is this true?

Luckily I have found a tuning garage that has access to ODIS. I’m hoping they are proficient at coding. I wish dealers offer this service.

I have upgraded my Columbus unit to MIB2.5 and got the optical cable. I take it that’s all the hardware component that’s needed to make this happen?

Also, you mentioned gateway is this additional component?

Not as far as I’m aware, there is nobody that can change VC mileages unless the cluster is new. The VC can be fitted independently of the MIB2.5 if you don’t want map mode but yes, once you have the radio and the fibre cable that’s all you need. There are adaptations to be done on the radio side at VCDS level to get the maps and images to transfer via MOST. If you have a 3Q0 High CAN Gateway already then you will be able to code the VC View tab in the radio.

Do you have anyone you would recommend to retrofit a superb VC in the northwest area or further North that London. Only person I can find is car technics from London

I don’t unfortunately, I did mine myself and of all retrofitters I’ve only heard good stuff about Tyrone from CarTechnics and I speak with him quite a bit :)

Thanks, yes his work looks really good so probably worth travelling

so this came today.

I’m still confused about the gateway is something I need to complete retrofit? How do I check if I have the correct gateway.

Do a vcds scan, it will show wat CAN Gateway u have.

It's Address 19.

I'm sure urs will b High version like mine.

Unfortunately don’t have access to VCD. I hope it’s not essential to do the retrofit.

I have found a place to do the coding but they seem abit afraid the connection from the analogue dials won’t be the same as to power the VC screen. I take it everything just plugins and the only new addition is the optical cable?

Do u have an OBD11 then?

Having either one is essential for doing any sort of retrofit.

Otherwise ur always relying on someone else.

The power connection is exactly the same. As above, some kind of coding tool is essential for you to have otherwise you are relying on the installer. A Superb 3 should have a 3Q0 Gateway but you will need to have them check. It’s not essential but it is the only way to get the digital instrument panel tab on the radio menu.

Thank you, I really appreciate it

So it’s appears my CAN gateway is 5Q0.

Is it sufficient?

@SashaGrace is it possible to change the view without 3Q0 or do I just get to only use the standard view?

You can change the view but you won’t be able to get this tab to change the dial info.

Thank you. How do I change the view without the dedicated menu or button.

You press the OK button on the steering wheel, the right side scroll wheel. You can fit the steering wheel buttons with the VIEW button if needed.

Thank you for your help. I can live with that. Upgrading the gateway sounds like a big job ( coding everything back).

Hey guys, looking for some help, please.

I have recently retrofitted a VC to my Superb 2018, brand new one, coded by a guy with access to ODIS, succeeded to get the map view on the new VC, but I'm missing some things:

- the VC menu doesn't appear in the CAR/SELECTION menu

- the single speedo/rev meter option in the VC - is this the sport mode?

Can anybody help me with coding this? I have some previous experience with VCDS.

Thanks!

Hi let's try to activate this 2 items in 5f, then restart columbus. in my case it helps to get VC configuration in columbus
