Sounds like that might be a hardware issue and if so updating might not be a good idea (I don't know how fail safe the update process is).

I just bought a second hand Octavia. As far as I was able to find online, I have a MIB2 Amundsen navigation system and I would like to use it with Apple Car Play but for some reasons I'm not able find SmartLink in the menu. Would you (or anyone here) be kind enough to help a new Skoda member?
I found some hints that a software update might enable this. 

Well, this is not AMundsen MIB2, this is Columbus MIB1, with DAB, PLs share your VIN on PM so I can check what are your options.
