diagnostics help needed Cornwall

Featured Replies

Hi all - does anyone in Cornwall not too far from PZ own OBDeleven/Carista/VCDS and willing to help with a quick scan to diagnose which wheel sensor is lighting up my dash with ABS/ESC warnings? There's a pasty and a rattler in it for ya!

Hi have you had a look on the VCDS Map pinned at the top section  of this forum to see if you can contact a local member direct from that? it shows you where via Google Maps members are with VCDS.

Hi Paulski, thanks for the vcds map mention - yes I spotted that link - to get to the nearest owner of VCP/VCDS it means a 100mile journey into Devon unfortunately...MOT now expired so won't risk that!

I found a local company in Redruth specialising in VW van conversions and remaps who have VCDS but they wouldn't budge on £35 +VAT for a scan - didn't bother contacting main dealers . That's the price of a basic OBDeleven widget so figured I may as well go for that instead.

I have since found another VAG specialist in Redruth who offer diagnostics - will call first thing tomorrow and ask how much they'll charge just to do the scan for me...

Their claim << the only independent centre to have the ODIS diagnostics software, which provides a direct feed into VW servers in Germany, ensuring we can respond rapidly to pinpoint any faults or outstanding updates >>

Earliest I can get the OBDeleven now is Tuesday. The weather's better today so my options are either wait for a scan or start taking the old sensors out one by one and replace with a new sensor, go for a quick spin each time and see if fault clears itself. Presumably it will disappear when a working sensor is fitted (assuming it's a sensor that's faulty)...or would it need to be cleared manually via the diagnostics tool/app??

AFAIK the fault code won't clear automatically and will have to be cleared using a diagnostic tool.

@PetrolDave thanks for the comments

So there is still a possibility (slight perhaps) that cleaning them of gunk was all that was needed. I won't hold my breath on that front but would of course be the nicest possible outcome! Ready and waiting with replacement sensors nevertheless.

Bought OBDeleven and plugged it in earlier to find a fault with NS rear speed sensor so about to get that swapped over and scan again...salad fingers crossed

Sensor swapped for new Bosch unit (£56 from ECP - bit pricey having seen what I could have ordered from Germany...approx £40 inc. shipping but hey ho) and all warning lights on my dash have thankfully disappeared.

If you're down my neck of the woods and need a scan feel free to drop me a line. (If it's a Lamborghini then there is a test-drive tax)

Congrats on finding the fault and welcome to the world of diagnostics.

I won't forget the time I was first asked for help with my VCDS by another vw group forum member.  I successfully diagnosed a faulty map sensor. Trip to Ecp with "customer" and all sorted in under an hour. Beer tokens in my pocket for my time and a warm happy feeling of helping someone get their car fixed from my "hobby" interest.

Many thanks @paulski I'm chuffed to have got it fixed without the added cost of having to visit a garage and very appreciative of the comments from the helpful crowd of Briskodians here - I'm sending you all some virtual beer tokens - think of it as BitBeer!

Looking forward to delving further into the OBDeleven app to see what it can do and look at more detailed info - I was eager to get going and find the cause so as soon as it pointed at that rear sensor off I went. I opted for the basic version as I didn't think I'd be doing much in the way of long-coding, but upgrade to Pro is an option for a fee (£70ish) if I change my mind and want to start fiddling without using/paying for credits.

I gather it's not as advanced as VCDS but for £43 I wouldn't expect it to be. Will plug it in again soon and see what comes up now that sensor issue has been sorted - there were 30 odd faults on the initial scan yesterday, which I cleared and then only the rear sensor fault remained, so it'll be interesting to see if anything returns.

Will add the OBDeleven info to my signature as per the VCDS help topic suggestion and like yourself, would be happy to help other forum members in a pickle.

First rules of diagnostics.

Full Scan of all modules.

Save scan safely

Clear faults found.

Drive

Scan again.

😀

I gather I can send the scan results via email - I had the camera in my hand at the time so I took snapshots of each of the faults it brought up before clearing them but later thought I'd have been better off saving/emailing myself the log. Live and learn eh!

Can anyone help with removing some lights on dash plz

I have steering wheel and esp light on , my daughter was in car playing music and battery went flat. Once I jump started it these lights came up and never came off , I have 10 days till I can take back for mot

Have you driven it?  After a flat battery those lights usually reset and go out once the car is driven for a short distance.

Hi all,

Sorry to jump on this thread with a question. Noob over here lol.

I'm trying to find someone in Cornwall who can code out bulb monitoring for certain lights after replacing halogen bulbs with Led.

Before anyone says it, I know about resistors and don't want to faff around with those lol plus some of the lights are unable to take them from what I can see just no space for them.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Hi, welcome.

Have a look at the following post to find the map and see those near you that may be able to help you, see when they last posted, make a judgement, as you can't direct/private message them put a post back here by giving them a shout out by putting an ' @ ' symbol just before their member name. e.g. - @nta16 = @nta16

HTH.

@nta16 Thank you for your response appreciate the help.

The only people that are remotely close from what I can see is @devonutopia and @PetrolDave and they are still 2 hours away lol.

You can only ask, perhaps they visit your area or you could meet them somewhere or advise on where you could get it done.

@nta16 No problem thank you again for your help. I shall see if any of these guys respond 👍

If you can't get it done you might be able to consider LED bulbs that don't require it, you get good advice, service and products from this company and they're used to the fussy German VW marque. My wife's 2015 Fabia has LED daylight running lights from them that don't upset the German engineering over complex computer programs without ballast resistors, but I've no idea about their headlights bulbs on VW products if you contact them they might be able to help as they sell to VW Transporter (campervan) owners.

@Sammy-8989 - if it's a 2011 Superb as per your profile, it'll depend what BCM you have as it's around then that LED support was added. If the BCM is too old, no amount of coding will help.

Unfortunately, VCDS isn't going to help you. It'll be a job for ODIS-e or VCP to directly access the lighting config section of the BCM EEPROM. Somewhat more advanced than most folk are capable of...

@nta16 Thank you bud do you have a link to share?

@langers2k Hey bud, thank you for your response. Sorry to be so silly but how do I know what BCM my vehicle has? Cheers.

😄 Sorry, I'm very I forgot the link then thought I'd posted it.

Classic Car LEDs is a good and knowledgeable company selling good products (cheaper Chinese crap is of course widely available) I put LED daylight running bulbs into my wife's 2015 Fabia from them and it was fit and forget. I prefer to reduce electric load on the thin wires and lower quality VW bulb fittings so I'd never go for the superbright to blind other road users and pedestrians LED bulbs.

If you want/need a chat phone them.

Warm white LED bulbs are a lot nearer incandescent appearance but brighter.

Good luck let us know how you get on (I've no idea what's on a 2011 Superb, been so mean headlights fashions with the car manufacturers and the German marques have usually been one step more (unnecessarily) over-complex than others.

Either physical inspection to see what's printed on it.

Otherwise most diagnostic equipment should tell you (carscanner, obdeleven, vcds, vcp, odis etc etc).

Just a warning, if the classic car bulbs do fool the bulb warning detection, it's because they have internal load resistors. This could cause issues with bulb sockets melting depending how the bulb is used 🫠
