DSG gearbox problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

im about to buy a Skoda superb 2009 2.0 CR elegance with 110 k miles on board and the current owner said the car needs a gearbox oil and filter change and it’s due the Cumbelt and water pump as well

he said that when engine temperature it’s low he can feel changing gears a bit rough but when The engine it’s warm up Changes smooth…

I know the car going to be seen by a mechanic but wondering if you guys know if changing oil and filter will solve this or could be other problems

Thank you for reading this !

Hello Andre

It needs a DSG oil change, as oppose to is due one?

Does it have a service history that shows the car, and more importantly DSG, has been serviced to schedule?

Sounds to me like they're saying it's not so bad once it's warmed up, which is no great surprise.  Trusting to luck that an oil change will make things better would make me suspicious that there's a problem.  DSG problems can be very expensive.

If it were me, I'd want a report from a competent person, who has the correct diagnostic equipment, and knows their way around a DSG.

Best of luck.

Yes it’s due an oil change now. Has some service done by Skoda ,but the last years was done by other garages

I know ..got to be seen by a specialist

Likewise, I would walk away if you are already getting a hint of trouble, plenty more out there.  I have no experience of DSG but when I was looking for my 4x4 Superb I walked away from one I tested which had a notchy manual gearbox, just wasn't happy with it.  Often gut feel is correct....

To " @Andre123 " - I have may be the same Problem. When the "DSG"-Oil is cold, I feel 90% of gear changes. Yes, when the "DSG"-Oil is cold - there is 10% of Absolutely Perfect gear changes. When "DSG"-Oil is hot, it is better for sure, but I feel about 10% of gear changes. I do not know what is going on and I do not have who to ask 😞 The Official "Skoda" Dealer in Bulgaria do not repair gear boxes. They only want to change the old with new one. My "Superb" is on about 175.000 Kilometers. I was told from independent specialist that is I fill in about 100-200 Grams of "DSG"-Oil in that way I will rise a little some internal pressure and because of this I will feel much better gear changes. But I am afraid of broke the gear box 😞

Thank you all for your time and advices !

i phone up Škoda specialist and they said could be just an adjustment and a oil filter to be done 350£ or worse scenario needs a replacement that cost  Approximately £ 2000

so I decided to let it go …

If the seller is so certain the gearbox issue would be sorted by an oil change why doesn't he do it? If not I hope he's prepared to sell it for peanuts.

Gearbox oil and cam belt is going to be best part of a grand.
