Following on from the wife leaving and taking the Tiguan (just to rub salt into a very open wound), it dawned on me that I could now buy myself a car, rather than buy her one. Don't fret too much, I'm keeping the Yeti as the works car and I've been looking for my ideal weekend / personal enjoyment car.  This weekend I found it...

 

 

 

 

It was a little more expensive than I wanted to pay, but it was the best colour I'd seen (Quartz Grey) and the spec list was immense.

 

Front & rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, B & O Sound System, Multimedia package (DVD drive and 2 sd card slots, ipod/usb connection), full cream leather, electric adjustable seats with drivers memory function, paddle shift on the steering wheel, rear window electric blind, front AND rear heated seats, folding and auto-dimming door mirrors and auto-dimming interior mirror, and probably some other stuff I've forgotten...

It's the 3.0ltr TDI Quattro but it's not the S Line. Someone has thoughtfully added S Line badges to the wings and installed an S Line steering wheel though, just for a nice touch.

Just sorting out a few little niggles with it.

 

Sat nav is 10 years out of date so needs a serious update.

 

Bonnet strut has failed and it won't stay up.

 

Someone put God awful led numberplate lights on it and they flicker.

 

It's been fitted with 8000k blue colour xenon headlight bulbs so you can't see where the **** you're going at night.

 

Might need a battery.

 

Only one key so getting another one sorted.

 

Headlight washers don't work, just dumps a pool of water under the car.

 

All in all, maybe £800 or so work needs doing to make it mint.

Does that £800 include a remap?  

Those engines will tune to as near as makes no difference to 600Nm of sledge hammer to the kidneys torque.  

 

It looks a lufly example.  Any pics of the interior?

No need for a remap. 240 is plenty enough for me.

in my opinion the A5 is the best looking Audi.

if it had a lift back boot and 3 rear seat belts, and i could justify the cost to myself m, id have one...

Bonnet strut fitted today, so that's one job sorted. Also found the loose pipe to the headlight washers and refitted it, job two sorted.

 

The sat nav update arrived today but needs a battery charger on the car while doing it, as it takes three hours.

The A5 Sportback can be had with 5 seatbelts and hatchback. 👍

150 in the Yeti is quick enough round these parts. 240 is well quick enough considering the roads I have to drive o.

 

I pulled out of a junction in front of my mates 300 bhp Discovery 5 the other day and booted it. He reckoned it's quick enough after he managed to catch me up.

Agreed, but i'd go a step further mac, and say that the A5 (3 door) is the nicest looking modern car on the road today............excluding some supercars.....

Buying a car with only one key would worry me. I'd be thinking why all the time unless the dealer had a good explanation.

It was a private sale, the guy bought it with only one key. I have another lined up as soon as the world gets sensible.

You can now have a DISCO IN THE DRIVE event. 2 Metres apart of course.

Well, the original ones were crap really, the vid doesn't really show just how bad, but the new ones are really striking. I'm not one for cosmetic mods for the sake of it but these were £20 delivered and they really improve the look I think.

Unfortunately, there's none available for the Yeti.

Surely you did not intend those DRL's to be flashing like that?

 

The door mirror repeaters are much more visible and I like them but the flashing leds mean the very dim yellow indicator light cant be seen, at least by me, OK my vision is compromised but far exceeds the required standards, better than many elderly drivers (which we will all be one day), faced with your oncoming vehicle (with the flashing lights) I really would not know that you were indicating.

No, the DRL flashing is simply a result of the camera video. In real life they're static.

If you look at any LED via a camera (video) during the day time the flickering is to do with the camera’s frame refresh rate and the LED’s power module frequency.

Ok, I got it

 

I have a similar phenomenon with one single traffic light in my area, there is a lower repeater panel with LED lights at drivers eye level because the lights are often beside where you stop & not the other side of the road & you would find it difficult to look up.

 

Ever since my eye operations 12 years ago there is one where the red light is contnuous when I look at it but if I look forward then it flashes in my peripheral vision, nobody else sees it and I dont see it on any other lights.
