Yeti v dog!

Featured Replies

Hi All

We've recently upsized from a westie to a Hungarian vizsla and the westie was a great traveller. She sat on the back seat with a seatbelt on with no issues...…. so only a blanket required.

The vizzie is a whole different kettle of fish and if she continues to grow at her current rate will be the size of a pony!

Any advice for travelling in a Yeti with a larger dog. Crate in the back? If so which ones are best?

Thanks

Lee (owner of Luna short for Lunatic)

Had a biggish Rough collie(Lassie), he travelled happily in the boot area with the rear seats in place of course, even cross channel, Plymouth - Roscoff  ---  never had any problems!

If maximum size is needed this is one of our cages that I cut down and modified to carry our dog.
The seat backs have to be tipped forward to get it in then raised to lock it in so it cannot move.
The door had to be lifted to clear the rear ledge but it uses the maximum room available.

Wow Ziggy, I can't help with the dog question, but I admire your level of posting restraint. 2nd post after 10 years :)

Btw I love Vizla's ears :) Bit of a change from a Westie!!

I have been a voyeur for the last 9 years or so and always seem to find any advice I need with a simple search!

Vizsla's ears....no idea what they are made of but I could play with hers for hours...….she's not too keen though!

You're going to get told off for being a post whore at this rate.

From a voyeur to a whore in less than 24 hours. Brisky corrupts!!

Save your money and buy a (used?) Travail dog guard for £50. We have had two Giant Schnauzers (40kg) and before that an Irish Wolfhound (65kg) happily in the Yeti. It is tall so the lack of boot 'footprint' doesnt matter so much as they can easily turn round. The only issue when they get older is the ' leap height ' (copyright me) up into the boot, which is better in say an Octavia estate.

Couldn't have put it better myself.   That's a real dog.

Does your uncle know you admire his ears?  And does he approve?

Teach it to drive ?

Until she died my Golden Retriever travelled happily in the back of my Yeti and she was tall for her breed. I never used a crate or dog guard (aren't there issues with fitting a dog guard in a Yeti unless the required fixings are specified at ordering?) and I simply don't like crates - it reduces the space available to the poor dog and if it's not tall enough it prevents them getting their head above seat back level to get any breeze - it can get very warm in the boot with the windows closed even with the aircon going. I've heard the arguments concerning what happens in an accident and the tailgate springs open but in that circumstance I'd be more worried about the crate distorting and not being able to get the door open. It depends on your personal assessment of risk.  There's not a huge amount of room front-to-back in the Yeti and the seat backs are quite tall so unless you have a very determined dog I think most would find it a bit of a struggle to get over onto the back seat. Perhaps try without dog guard or crate with an adult in the back and see how things go?

I've heard of a Boxer and a Terrier Van, also a Greyhound Bus, but not a Vizsla car (maybe Citroën will do one?)

In an accident determination would not come into it, but inertia would.

I once had a 'Tigress'.  It had three wheels.  One of them was the spare.  It was made by Triumph.  Anyone remember back that far?

(We're off-topic, but this is the Yeti forum.)

Sister to the BSA Sunbeam scooter.  Mate had one.  He spent more time repairing it than riding it!

My mate had a Zundapp Bella. I never saw him riding it but I often saw it being repaired 😄. I had a Bond Minicar at the time, he used to come out with me as parking assistant. Only needed a space as long as the car we used to jump out and lift it in.

p.s. oops sorry wandering way off topic again 🤭

My brother had the Sunbeam.  As far as I remember though, neither had real problems.  Apart from whiskered plugs and punctures.

My last OT here, I promise...

How's the big end 🙂

My friend who fosters dogs for a rescue centre has one of these:

https://store.barjo.co.uk/car-cages-skoda/car-cages-skoda-yeti-(2009->)-people-carrier?tailgate-guards

Custom made and lockable if you need to leave the tailgate open when leaving the car.

Whatever you choose, if they're in the boot you still need a guard above the rear seat to prevent their access to the passenger compartment. The Highway Code states that dogs must be restrained in a way that prevents them from interfering with driving.

  • 2 months later...

Does anyone know of a 'full height' dog guard/luggage divider for a Yeti - along the lines of the oem item fitted to the Touran.

Don't have a dog, I find these essential for safely packing the boot especially if one or more of the rear seats are removed
