Dreaded Water pump failure

Featured Replies

Hi I currently own a 2017 pre face lift octavia vRS diesel with 45k lms on the clock, bought from new. It is just over 1 month out of warranty and has only been main dealer service.

I had the water pump failure 8 months ago and had it replaced under warranty.

Now again I have another water pump failure.( theres 3 apparently ). I dont know which pump has failed and will be bringing to the dealer next week. I have been told that even if the pump that was replaced already has failed that it wont be replaced under warranty because the main warranty has ended. I would have thought the part would be warranted for 12 months. Anyway if it turns out to be either of the other 2 pumps what chance do I have of Skoda making a contribution to the repair costs as it has such low mileage and is well looked after. Also how would I go about requesting skoda to make a contribution.

Thanks and apologies for the essay 😂

I thought Ireland was the same as England in that replaced OEM parts have a two year warranty.  I would have a hard job accepting they won't fix it - unless of course it's a completely new, unrelated, out of warranty matter.  If they say they won't cover it, i'd probably seek advice from Trading Standards before doing anything.

Yeah I assumed that myself 2 year warranty on parts. It's highly unlikely the same water pump. The dealer told me on the phone that there are 3 pumps 1 main and 2 auxiliary pumps so I imagine it cant be the newer one. However I asked the dealer would that be covered and he said no because the cars warranty is out which makes no sense to me.

It's a bit strange with such low mileage that this is a 2and water pump failure. Car drives perfect and no coolant loss just an intermittent EML

Are the symptoms the same as when the pump failed 8 months ago? There was a thread just recently with some really good info on the cooling system. From memory (known to be wrong) 1 main pump which has the sleeve setup we all know about. 1 pump to circulate the charge air cooler water which uses the main coolant system as a reservoir via a none return valve. Last pump I think is related to the air con system so we can rule that out.

No symptoms last time or this time. Dealer told me it was one of the auxiliary pumps that failed the last time. The main pump was ok so I'm guessing it's the 2and auxiliary pump that's gone as the car isnt over heating and no loss of coolant

If it is the same part it is covered by the 2 year parts warranty. However the labour is not covered under the warranty.

This is not true, this is the excerpt from the new car warranty terms and conditions:-Replacement parts warranty All ŠKODA Original replacement parts carry a parts warranty for a period of 2 years/unlimited mileage, from the date of purchase. Items with warranties in excess of 2 years will be advised to you at the time of purchase. The 2 year parts warranty does not apply to parts fitted under the terms of the vehicle warranty, which are warranted for the remaining period of the vehicle warranty.

I stand corrected. Thank you for that as I was not aware 👍

So if you have a part replaced under original warranty on day 1094 (in warranty) then it fails on day 1096 (out of warranty) it won't be covered? If you pay for the original failure it'll be covered for an additional 2 years?

Thanks for that. Males sense as to what the dealer told me . Still crazy to think if you had a replacement done with 1 day left on warranty and say that part failed the very next day it would no longer be covered.

Just an update for you. Back from the dealer it turns out that it was the same pump again!! Got it changed 8 months ago and only 10k kms since before it failed again. Dealer told me they will get onto Skoda and will be shocked if they dont pay a contribution or even cover the full costs as it wasnt even replaced that long ago. The new part as I had to pay myself is now covered under a 2 year warranty.

Let's trust this one'll last a bit longer than the previous one 🙄
