boost gauge

Featured Replies

anybody got a boost gauge fitted and if so,where is the best place to pick the vacuum up from,i have had a quick look but unsure of the best place to fit T piece (dont want to break anything) and whats the chances of a dealer voiding warranty for having one fitted ?

TaviaRS definitely has one fitted to his vRS. Try a search for boost gauge via the Advanced Search button at the top right and you will find some relevant threads.

Its the pipe that goes into the Fuel Pressure regulator

Oh, I've modified the picture now. The blob of yellow top left is where you can pass the tube through. If you lift the plastic covering that the wipers pass through (thing its a 12mm to remove the wiper bolts, bit of a fiddle to remove the wiper arms, press down where they spring up rather than just yanking). Under there you will find another rubber grommet that passes through to the cabin.

thanks for the diagram, that makes life alot easier,do you think a dealer could void my warranty by fitting one ? and do i need a 1 or 2 bar gauge ?

Get a 2 bar gauge, even for a standard engine. You never know, you might want to run it in a car that has more than 1 bar of boost ;)

I seriously doubt they would void your warranty for fitting a gauge, even Skoda aren't that stupid.

thanks for your advice,i think i will pop out tomorrow and invest in one because i am having a problem with the boost at the moment and i am curious to see if its loosing pressure, but after reading previous threads im not sure if its a pipe colapsing, the N75 valve failing, the standard dump valve failing or something completely different, fingers crossed the dealer can sort it for me because im missing the power, thanks again for your help

DSmith you can at least check the DV yourself quite easily. Remove the plastic engine cover and the DV is at the back right with two 1" diameter hoses bottom and side, and a little one on the top. Pull off the top one, attach some small diameter pipe, and suck on it. If you can suck air through, the diaphragm is split. Buy another, or invest in an after-market DV.

Hope this helps.

Dsmith,

I have a different type to Jon's that uses a vacuum tube to connect from the Fuel Pressure Reg to the gauge via the wiring loom grommet under the driver's side wiper drive-just long enough. Its an 80 mm diameter gauge made by Pivot and was sourced from IP in Chatham,Kent for about

chris, thanks for your advice about the gauge, but i bought a small tim 2 bar gauge today and mounted it in a home made panel in the ashtray area under the flap because i wanted it to be discreet and i didnt want to start cutting or drilling holes in the car, looks good even if i do say so myself

nick i will have a look at the diverter valve and see if its split and if it is do you think i am better off replacing it with the standard item or an aftermarket one ? ive read through the archives and people seem to be split, some saying the standard ones up to the job and others saying you need an aftermarket one,the car is standard at present but i will be getting a remap when funds permit,so im in two minds as what to do but i would buy the aftermarket type as long as there quiet ?

As you say, people are split on the need for an aftermarket DV. Some claim that an aftermarket one improves throttle response; I'm not in a position to comment on that (difficult to measure on a car with automatic transmission).

By all accounts, the OEM DV will work fine, even after a remap, if it doesn't break. My own experience is that the stock DV does break - it's just not robust enough for the job. Apparently, later versions are better built and less prone to failure.

So - you pays your money and you takes your choice. Stock DVs are around
