Hi guys, 

 

I'm looking to change the front brake pads on my Octy. When it comes to pushing the piston back to accommodate the new pads, should I open the bleed nipple or remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir and remove some fluid?  Whats the best option here?

 

On a separate note - suspension noises. I'm getting serious creaking noises from rear suspension whenever someone gets in or out of the back seats. ( rear suspension also makes horrific creaking noises when I'm lowering the front after having it jacked up).  Would anyone have any advice on starting to troubleshoot that? or is it a common issue? (2014 octavia combi).

With the brakes, just undo the brake fuid reservoir cap and monitor the fluid as you wind the piston in. It shouldnt overflow unless the fluid was topped up.

It might be dry bushes creaking as that can be a common issue on all modern cars.

I lack the experience to know if suspension components are past it or not.

I’ve attached a picture of the anti roll bar bush and also the drop link bearing.

 

Both look fairly dry and the drop link bearing looks deformed?!

 

any thoughts on what you see? 
 

I’ll have a look at the rear components later on too. 

What I do to try and find a squeeky bush is spray it with silicone spray. If the noise quietens then you know it is that specific bush.

Took the rear wheels off this afternoon and had a look. The springs look perfectly intact. 

 

I think I'll have to admit defeat and bring it to a garage ! 🙃
