Tuning Box 2019 S3 150bhp

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know there are a few posts on this but to be more specific. I am thinking of installing a tuning box onto my 150bhp 2.0tdi.

I was considering racechip gts but they don't offer engine warranty in Ireland. This is the same with dtuk and tdi tuning.. I was looking at tuningbox.com evolution. It offers a 2 year engine warranty.. Bluetooth app control etc..

Has anyone had any experience with tuning box evolution?

Also has anyone used a tuning box on the 150bhp 2.0tdi... Have you had issues or are you happy with the gains? Remap isn't an option as I don't want to drive up and down 2 hours or more to get the map reverted everytime I get a service. Cheers..

Hmmm, there's an amazing similarity between the products, pricing, terminology and website design of both Racechip and tuningbox.com.  Too much of a similarity.  I'll go out on a limb....

Same company.  Same sub-standard products*.  Same terrible reputation.  Same very poor customer services.

I would also take any 'engine warranty' claims with a large pinch of rock (boulder) salt, regardless of geo.

Take a look at Bluespark tuning boxes and save yourself the hassle and a few £00's.  Some nice gains for relatively not much money and a noticeable improvement over stock, once you find a setting you're happy with.  I used one for over a year with no adverse effects, not even an EML.  Plenty of happy users on BMW forums too (I mention this because OBD port tuning isn't possible/easy/cheap on some BMW models, so owners often use tuning boxes for performance gains;  so the BMW forums are good place to find some real world reviews on the various boxes/brands on the market)

*it seems they can't get the tuning boxes 'right' but I've had two of their pedal boxes and they've been great.  Seems to be a common theme for Racechip.

How do mean about engine warranty? What engine were you running with the bluespark box?

I'm just naturally weary of damaging the engine etc. But I miss the power I had in my vRS in the superb. I just think a car of its size should offer better bhp and torque

SuperChips (Bluefin remaps) had a Warranty, they are in Liquidation (Administration) now.

Maybe the Warranty Underwriters / Insurers will cover claims still.

Like any Tuning Box or Remap Dealers warranty read the words, on just what the 'Insurance' is on, is it their product and do they cover a Engine Claim if there is a failure and you Manufacturers Warranty is void with Non factory approved hardware / software / Engine Management.

RE Removing remaps before a service.

?

Why,

if you own the car and want a Dealership Service tell them to not do software updates as the car is remapped.

You declare a tuning box or remap on your insurance so just as well paying up or using your tuners warranty if there are engine issues.

That is if the warranty is worth the paper or website it is written on.

I had one fitted to a 150TDI Sportline, same as yours 😊. IIRC Bluespark ship it with what they deem to be the best setting but recommend you change things to find something that suits you/your car.  I played with the various settings over a few weeks and settled on C7, from memory.  I think C5 was what was shipped with.  On the Bluespark you have a jumper which covers 5 positions, A-E and a dial which covers 0-9.  The letters refer to the power delivery and the number is the intensity.  Bluespark described it to me as listening to music "The letter is the track and the number is the volume".   I was actually pleased with the results.

With regards to engine warranty, I would be amazed if any tuning box company would provide any practical technical or financial support should your engine go bang after fitting one of their products.(Burger Motor Sport would be an exception from what I hear)   There's likely something buried deep within the T&C's that states you need to provide evidence the box was to blame.  Hence why I'd try to get something more commonly used but more importantly with a good reputation.

Dont understand why you would mess about putting on and taking off the remap just for a service ?

Unless whomever is doing your service dives into the ecu  to check the configuration of it, they will never know. or they drive the car and notice the increase in torque.

I have had 2 Skodas that were remapped and dealers never said anything after service, about warranty invalidated .

Unless you were trying to get over 200 BHP from your 150, then this will stress parts and cause failures,

Any decent person who does remaps would kill their business if they did maps that caused damage.
