Kodiaq Tuning, stage 1, 2 and 3?

Had the TDi vRS back in 2020 and loved it.

Want another but want to go to town on tuning it and making it a beast.

Anyone done any stage # tuning?

What other models share the skoda 2.0 tsi engine? I see plenty of Octavia vRS stage 3 tuned with a 2.0 tsi. Same engine, same tune?

 

I'd love to make the Kodiaq WRC my reality.

It’s the exact same lump you’ll find in a Golf GTi (and Golf R, for that matter). So plenty of tuning options are available.

 

They’ll all be a complete waste of time unless you also manage to tune the gearbox as well though, as it’s a lethargic piece of ****.

Thanks for the info.

I'll be looking to use a local specialist tuner and will be discussing such options. The tuning needs to be balanced and like you say, gearbox and everything else needs to be upgraded to match the power.

Yeah, but the turbo is part of the tuning. It's the same 2.0l EA888 petrol engine at its core, and you could tune a Golf GTi or Kodiaq vRS by replacing the stock turbo with the larger one (and almost certainly other bits at the same time).

Loads of different variants in different VAG cars - up to the 310bhp Audi TTS (but I think it's a bit out of date as it doesn't list the most recent Octavia/Kodiaq version). Suggests to me that there is plenty of scope to tune a Kodiaq vRS north of 300bhp, if you're willing to spend enough money of course. Alternatively, I'm sure with enough expertise you could rip the engine / gearbox / drivetrain out and replace them with those from an RSQ8... 😉

@Yogi-Bear replace with the guts of an RSQ8 ... nice idea ... but I neither have the expertise nor do I think I'd finding the guts at a reasonable price to put in. 

Although ... this journey was spawned from me looking at the RSQ8, realising I don't have the cash for that, then looking at an S8 and tuning that ... and realising I don't have the cash for that either ... then remembering that I could pick-up a 2022 vRS for about £40k and thinking I could throw a few £k at tuning it and get something equally fun, equally practical, but unique, for less than either of the Q8 options.

 

That's the idea anyway. We'll see how far I get before realising it's just not going to be worth the trouble 🙂 LOL

I think it's Gen3B.

 

Variant code seems to be DKZA, which has been in production since 2018. (edit - forget that, that was the 190bhp TSI in the pre-facelift model)

 

Edit: Sorry, that's duff information - think it might be DKTA, which would (as far as I can tell) be Gen4. There's so much conflicting information all over the place, it's hard to be sure!

Yeah, conflicting info. The company I'm speaking with to do the tuning says that the EA888.3 (Gen 3) engine is the best bet due to the number of well trodden paths done to this version already. EA888.4 (Gen 4) would be more of a challenge as not as many proven mods to date.

 

With that in mind, I was looking to build on a vRS base model, but it doesn't sound like the vRS TSi came with the EA888.3, only EA888.4. In which case my best option would be to build on a Sportline 2.0 TSi or L&K. 

 

While I can look at the spec sheets to confirm feature differences, other than the engine itself, are the any other significant mechanical differences between the vRS and Sportline / L&K that I need to take into account ... i.e. suspension, gearbox, etc.?

So ... Skoda chat wasn't able to confirm to me the version of engine in the new vRS, in terms of EA888 generation.

They did how say that the engine code they have is CHZB.

Yep gen 4. Limiting factor at the moment is the TCU as less people have unlocked it for EA888.4 use. With the introduction of the EA888.4 they revised the DQ381 so now being informally named DQ381.2 or G2. Some can be flashed and some can’t currently.

Ok then, seems the gen 4 vRS is off the table then for a stage 3 tune.

 

So ... sportline or L&K as a base model to tune up? Given I'd be looking to modify the body anyway, and possibly the interior as well, I'm thinking the L&K might have a better spec than the sportline. But I'd be grateful for any opinions on that.

I've had a vRS TDI since 2020.

Looking at next upgrade option so scoping out options. 

Racingline have just released a new OEM+ Stage 1 remap which takes the EA888 Gen 4 to 345 bhp, which includes a TCU tune as soon as it's available.

So I'm considering that and like you say, moving to stage 2/3 as more tested modifications are released. But that's going to be what ... 12 ... 18 months or more?

Just investigating all options before rushing into things as this will be a significant financial and time investment.
