Here is my fresh install.

Otherwise it looks good, but for my taste background is too exposed.

I think I have to mod black mesh behind the grill or something...

While the mesh was a good idea. You could also spray the radiator and visible parts with a black rattle can and it would make a big difference.

  • Heres another go at it. Got silver mesh from local auto parts store, painted it black and installed it behind the grill and front lip also found its way under the bumper. Much better now !

  • i removed the chrome trim below too, here you can see:   1) stock   2) black front grille and trim   3) black logo

  • U want the least amount of swearing, easy access and least amount of risk (breaking something else in the process) - bumper off job.   U want lots of swearing, feeling ur way around (cause u

Yes, from wat I can see too.

Tis a very small difference really.

I'm surprised they bothered!

That's not a good idea. The radiator has to radiate heat (obviously) and adding a layer on it is something I would avoid.

Better install a new Forge intercooler that is already black ;)

This would make no difference. Matt black paint is a poor insulator.

Erm, is the Forge just painted black also?

Of course it is. But I don't think that Forge's painting is the same as the one we would do in our garages. Or am I wrong?

Paint is paint, I think this has been discussed to death online and the general idea is it makes no difference.

If you wanted to paint your rads etc, a very fine mist would take the colour away. You wouldn't need a full coat.

Otherwise drive the car more and they soon get covered in bugs and grime.

Ok, let's put it this way: if I paint it, I close half the holes with paint. Because it's not my job. But by this I don't mean that others are not capable of it... 😅

But i get what you mean!

It is all about protecting the radiator as these are expensive. A bit of mesh gives protection, and putting the colour on prior to install is easy, and just flashing of paint on a radiator doesn't protect the fins in any way, even if it is this and not clogging the fins, and a pre-coloured radiator is just as vulnerable and way more work to fit.

Anyone has some advice on removing the front grille with the frame, im about to do mine in a few days, i dont plan to remove the bumper, from what i have seen, you need to remove the top plastic to expose the bolts that are all around the grille, then undo them, and remove the whole assembly? I ordered the complete black grille with the black frame, so i can replace the whole piece at once.. Is it doable without removing the front bumper? Thnx guys!

Yes. It's doable! I did mine that way although I only changed the surround. Your way sounds better as you're changing the whole lot. A couple of the screws are fun 😝

Yeah, well, as long as i have room to stuck my hands in there, i think ill make it, they are all torx screws right? So a nice magnetic bit, on a swiwel should do the trick i guess..

All torx screws yes. I didn't bother putting two of them back in. Once you start the job, you'll know which two 😉 They went a bit overkill with the number of screws in my opinion!

Make sure your torx bit is well held in your bit holder.

Yeah, i do have a nice set of tools, so no worries there, learned my lesson once i lost a 9mm socket in the bay of an RS4 :D

These r the bits (marked in red) securing the grille to the bumper......

I can't imagine doing it without removing the front bumper. The torx screws were only part of the battle, there's also the plastic tabs

From what i can see, if i remove the whole assembly, grille and the grille frame, the plastic tabs should not be an issue? Or mybe i need to put my glasses on :D

That would be the sensible way of doing it. I work on aircraft and usually we try and remove the least amount of parts for access which can make jobs interesting shall we say! We're a stubborn bunch 🤣

You're right 😂👍

U want the least amount of swearing, easy access and least amount of risk (breaking something else in the process) - bumper off job.

U want lots of swearing, feeling ur way around (cause u can't see inside), scratching ur head (plus others bits of choice.....), and don't mind having a few spare bolts or broken tabs - keep the bumper on!!

So.....u going take the Red or Blue pill?

Choose wisely :giggle:

What are people doing for the black trim? Picking up my superb on Sat and I'm wanting to change the trim. Can't seem to find any online though. Are people painting them or is there somewhere I can buy one?

TIA
