Lowering springs

Featured Replies

Hi guys/girls,

I hope you’re all well. I’m new to here so nice to meet you all. I’m thinking of lowering my mk3 Octavia Vrs estate. I feel it stands a bit too high and would like it a bit lower but not silly low either. My car is a 2017 reg and it has the Driver Chasis Control set up. My query is have you any advice on lowering springs and will they negatively affect the drive experience? Will they mess up the DCC function and can wheel spacers be used once lowered? The last thing I want is a poor drive experience and rubbing.

Any advice would be great. I look forward to hearing from you all 👍

  • All skodas stance is too high. I also lowered my normal suspension with coilovers but not too much because I don't like it too low, for me this is how normal octavia should look from factory:

Lowered on Eibach pro with DCC for approx 30000km now, no regrets at all from me. Handling is great and I think it looks alright too.

Cool. Thanks for that. Much appreciated 👍 can the calibration of the DCC be done by a third party mechanic or does that have to be done in the dealership? The dealerships I find are just pure robbery (no offence to anybody here working in dealerships).

Anyone who has ODIS and knows how to use it can do it. I’m sure a lot of people don’t have this done but it should be done to benefit the system. Consider your choice of lowering springs carefully if you want to make use of DCC, I don’t have it and I run H&R’s and I will gladly accept that the ride is a bit harder because the car does handle better and looks nicer but I doubt Comfort mode with the DCC would be worth using on my springs so do consider everything. Eibach Pro’s aren’t as low and are a bit more forgiving I am led to believe.

My car on H&R’s

I have eibach pros on a non-vrs setup and they are great. You notice the stiffer ride but the car so much more controlled you get over it very quickly.

What does the recal do on DCC? Is the system damped via magnetic resistance or does pressing the button turn a knob on the shocks (like some aftermarket systems)? If mag then maybe they can be recalibrated so that all settings are a bit firmer. This should give you a good compromise. Stiffer springs definitely ride well on firmer shocks.

I’ll be brutally honest lad, I have no idea how the DCC really works. I’m not a mechanically minded person at all. Aesthetically, I just feel the car could be a bit lower to give it a better And more sporty look and that’s all I’m after really. Thanks for the info about what you’re running though, every bit helps 👍

Sasha your car looks the business and exactly what I’m after really. I just need to figure out does the car actually have DCC. I have the vrs mode button but I don’t know if that’s suspension related or just solely engine and steering related as it mentions fuel economy in one of the modes as well as sport mode. I’m just a bit confused on that.

Look in the Individual setting options, if the car has DCC it will be listed there.

If it doesn’t have comfort when you scroll through the driving modes it doesn’t have DCC, you have the regular suspension like most of us (DCC is very rare) and if that’s the case you can lower away as I have without worry.

Yeah there's no 'comfort' option so I am sorted then thankfully. If you have people in the back seat, do you find there is rubbing then?

No problem with 2 adults in the back, a boot full of gear and a 5.5 meter rib behind it. I’m spaced 25mm on the back.

That's a good example image of a lowered car in a normal situation.

What weights are we looking at there? Trailer and rib, with a boot full......500kg ish? I understand the whole trailer weight won't be on the towbar.

Nice one. Looks well 👌 I presume those wheels are 19’s too? Looks perfect. I’ll be going with the same set up as you then once everything is back open again. Thanks SashaGrace 😊

I don't know anyone who didn't regret lowering the body of the car. Moreover, an estate car has nothing to do with a sports car wherever you look at it.

An estate is a family car able to load many luggage.

2x adults about 90kg each, boot full of boating gear plus 40kg dog, 55 odd kg of nose weight on the towbar and the boat on a braked trailer, so pretty heavy all in. Copes fine.

Yes, the Xtreme’s, and I’m on the H&R 40mm’s and it sits great when it’s not fully loaded.

I’m an admin on a 1300 plus member Octavia vRS Mk3 group on fb and over 100 of us are running lowered vRS estates with nothing but praise. An estate car can look good and be practical. Underneath the vRS is based on the Golf GTI which is a formidable hot hatch. I’ve thrown my car around the track and it drives fabulously.

Lowered my previous cars and found them to be great. No regrets from me. You just need to make sure you have the alignment checked whenever you touch the suspension. I know of some people who have cried about it ruined their tyres or it didn't handle right, but after they then bothered to get it the suspension checked and aligned, they were happy.

Cheers lads and ladies. Very helpful 👍 Thanks a million

For me, I like the std height on the mk3. I lowered my mk2 VRS on Eibachs and although the car handled better. Looking back it made my drive along the A50 and A500 very bumpy indeed! Plus I like not having to worry too much about the lip of my bumper scraping over some insanely high speed humps or going down steep ramps in car parks in Chester and other places.

Any special adjustments done to DCC system? If a car has DCC system, does it have suspension hight sensors on front and rear? Standard suspension with LED headlights has only rear.

No adjustments done to DCC. Yes it has height sensors front and rear, the headlights needed recalibration.

I´ve lowered my 2015 Octavia RS about a week ago with eiback sport (25mm lower).

And i was very careful that i did everything right.

And a love the hardness and the way it looks.

It handles bump without any noise but when i steer it sounds like the springs is slipping and kind of squeaks/knocking.

Is it normal or have i maount them wrong?

I followed this guide:

First let somebody check with you, do your front springs rotate freely when you turn the steering wheel, it must turn the upper bearing with ease.

I will check thanks!

Did anybody installed stiffer anti roll bars and does it affect ride comfort for daily drive?
