A way to adapt a jack connection

Featured Replies

Hello there, just signed up recently because I was looking for a way to use my phone on my good old Skoda. Buying a new radio it's out of the question, because it's too expensive

Been looking around forums but didn't found any answer to the following question:

-Is there any way I can convert/adapt the radio of my skoda to a Jack 3.5  connection? ( I went for the 3.5jack because It's just more confortable to use the phone with Spotify)

I've seen a bunch of adapters/cables/baselines online but I don't have any idea which one to buy.  As far as I know my radio doesn't have any AUX buttons so I can't just

connect an AUX-Jack (plus I read that you need to config the radio manually to activate it. Therefore the only option is to use to CD connector and convert it to Jack 3.5

but I'm not entirely sure.

I'd appretiate if you can at least link me some models of adapters that can be of use

Here's some photos of my radio

Hope you can help because I'm getting sick of listening the radio.

Thanks :3

My mk2 octavia has a 3.5 jack underneath the armrest. Have you checked here?

Failing that a bluetooth to RF adapter is quite handy and cheap. I have a dab one of these in the fabia.

Allow you to have dab radio, hands free calls through the stereo speakers and also play any music from your phone, you just need to tune the head unit into a frequency that isnt used and then program the adapter to match.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply

Okey,so first of all this is a pretty basic Octavia, my dad bought with only some extras (the basic model, the cd radio doesn't even read Mp3) so I guess that's why I dont have the jack underneath the right side armrest, which as far I know are where usually the connectors and USB are  (I only have the left armrest of the door side)

Any ideas?

i replaced the headunit in my old mk1 with a 30quid unit from lidl. it worked perfectly.

no cd, but full bluetooth, aux in, fm radio. no hassle to do the install, in fact i swapoed it back to the other one when i traded it in, in case i needed it again...

it doesnt have to be expensive to change, and some of the adapters and cables etc will cost as much if not more.  ;)

I thought about it, but the models of this car are the old units like this one

 I can't just buy a 30$ ( https://www.amazon.com/Car-Stereo-Head-Unit-Receiver/dp/B0078XGE3Y/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Volkswagen|74&Model=Golf|968&Year=2005|2005&ie=UTF8&n=1077068&newVehicle=1&s=car&vehicleId=1&vehicleType=automotive )

and put it, it won't fit, you gotta buy the entire set https://es.aliexpress.com/item/4000075166146.html?spm=a219c.search0302.3.1.3a3a3d22bDV508&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_0,searchweb201603_0,ppcSwitch_0&algo_pvid=325c2c23-9538-4314-8391-a9bd19736b43&algo_expid=325c2c23-9538-4314-8391-a9bd19736b43-0

Which would cost me at least150$, making it not worth it

ehhh... pretty sure you can just get din rail, and fascia for a lot less than that...

That looks the same as my head unit,

Get a bluetooth transmitter

or....

get the single din bt radio for 30-50quid and one of these....

to go around it. you even gain a storage cubby ;)

or this one that even comes with the adpaters you might need.

Ideally you need the Stream MP3 version of this head unit as it has the Aux In option. You can then add a lead to the connection block at the back to terminate in a 3.5mm Jack. I think you need to move one of the pin connections in the block as well.  I have done this exact upgrade but can’t remember the details as it was about 10 years ago. Stream MP3 players are cheap

You’ll need the wire loom that costs about £5 too. Can’t find a link at the moment for this.

Hm okey, looks like I have more options then I expected, I'll give it some thought and see what fits me best.

Thanks all for the help and quick response ❤️

I did it the way I did as I still wanted to retain the cd changer in the boot

The only downside of using the Aux in or Jack is that you have no control over the output of the source device. It’s certainly not safe to scroll through playlists etc whilst driving.
