UPDATING SAT NAV

Featured Replies

HI I HAVE A KAROQ SEL 1.5 2019 AND I AM TRYING TO UPDATE THE SAT NAV CARD FROM THE AMUNDSON UNIT.

CAN ANYONE WALK ME THROUGH THE PROCEDURE USING A MAC COMPUTER.

I AM FAIRLY COMPUTER SAVVY.

THANKS

The  easiest way is to go to someone with a Windows PC it will save you hours of aggravation trying to get a MAC to do it

Install Blue Harvest on your Mac and use that to remove the extra files that macOS adds onto the SD card and which confuse the Amundsen.

Points:

"Update" is not exactly that.  My understanding is that the only "new" version available is updated once a year in Nov/Dec. An update done now in May/June is still a few months old.

My car is serviced once a year and the dealer does the update then.

The May map update is definitely different to the November update - try doing a file compare on them...

BTW both updates are usually at least 6 months (often more) out of date because of the delay between the mapping provider (Here?) releasing the maps to VAG and the map files being generated and put online.

Thanks. I don't see six months (or a year) as a problem.  I'll still leave it for my dealer at the next service.

As an aside the maps on the Garmin I use on my motorcycle date from 2007.  No real problem as roads generally don't change much.  After all what did we do before satnavs?

Over the last 20 years that I've been using sat navs I've often found myself driving in a field according to the sat nav when in reality I'm on a road that is up to 3 years old, that's made me OCD about having the latest available maps. BTW with an Amundsen  (I have a MIB1 Amundsen) the maps are used from the SD card so I just bought another genuine Skoda SD card (the Amundsen won't work with any other SD card) off eBay for 1/10 the price from a dealer and alternate between the 2 SD cards - so I've always got the latest maps plus a backup of the previous version.

I still have a paper road atlas in every car and at home (current year in my Skoda, previous year in my other car and 2 years ago at home).

On the Amundsen you must use an approved Skoda-supplied SD card, if you're looking to update the maps then presumably you already have one?

This link is useful, take a note of your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) from under the passenger side wiper blade.

https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/

There is also a video on the above link that shows you the process, although I'm not sure if using an Apple Mac will be different? As mentioned it might be worth using a Microsoft / Windows based PC for this task.

Okay Guys thanks for all your replies.

I think I'll let my dealer do the update on the next service.

As I like my Mac & don't want to swap it for a windows based system.

I don't know whether or not this is something offered by my particular dealer. Might be worth checking with your dealer.

The "CleanMyDrive" app mentioned does a similar job to BlueHarvest that I mentioned - removes the 'extra' files that macOS adds to the SD card which confuse the Skoda sat nav.

Thank Dave for posting this.

Just one question this will definately work with the Amunsdon sat nav fitted to my Karoq 2019 SEL

Thanks

I don't think they will - they mention using a 64GB SD card and doing an update of the sat nav from the SD card; neither of those are correct for an Amundsen as with an Amundsen you MUST use a Skoda SD card (any normal SD car will not work) and there is nothing to update after inserting the SD card as the Amundsen reads the maps directly from the SD card.

With an Amundsen you download the .zip or .7z file, uncompress it, then simply copy the files to the SD card and finally clean up the unwanted macOS files. BTW I always copy the original contents of the SD card onto the SSD/HDD of a NAS drive I have, so I have an archive of all the maps for my MIB1 Amundsen from 2016 to 2020.

Correct Skoda SD cards can usually be found cheaply on eBay, you need on with prefix 5L0 like this MIB2 Amundsen2 SD Card

I have 2 Skoda SD cards (both from eBay) and alternate between them so I always have the latest maps in the car and a backup of the previous maps in the house.

Skoda maps are always more than 1 year old relating to current Here maps available online.

Yet, WV maps are about 6 months old.

And Skod latest (v 1410) are few months older than previous (Nov 19) WV v1430 release.

You can use WV maps in Skoda. WV Discover Media is the same as Amundsen.

And you get much 'fresher' maps... Which are as I note still half year outdated though... (Yeah I suspect it really takes a 6 months to WV experts to do file copy)
