Luckily we are moose free in Ireland, is there a pot hole swerve test?

At least it looks pretty easy to do a scandy flick in one of these

Surprising that a modern VAG product with all it electronic aids can still fail this test. Under damped and over weight?

Why would the iV be any different to a standard S3 for this test?

The weight of batteries in the boot, behind the rear axle maybe?

One - it's a Wagon. Fat a55.

Two - it's got batteries up the back. Heavy a55.

Not surprised at all with the results!!

Seems the Passat GTE failed also

Anyone with a Superb Estate or even hatch. Or an Audi Avant, VW Passat etc with a petrol or diesel engine might well fill the luggage compartment with heavy items and have an equally tail happy vehicle as an iV running with just a driver & front seat passenger in and no rear passengers of load.

I hope the vehicles get the same tests at Max Gross / Revenue weight.

Apparently part of it is due to the tyres, as these cars have runflats? Haven't gotten any validation but that's what some people said in the comments.

It hardly matters about any excuses, as Skoda fit ECO Tyres as OEM and even on performance models or SUV's.

Many drive a car with what it comes with and might not even check tyre pressures, demonstrators, hire or fleet cars, work cars like 'Blue Light' responders.

The cars should be tested at their worst spec not the best.

Many drive them unchecked, or unaware of what tyres are fitted.

When have Skoda put eco tyres on performance tyres and SUV's? The 'worst' tyres I've seen and used one in a performance/SUV Skoda have been the Bridgestone S001 tyres on the Superb 220PS - wheel hop galore. Not doubting you, but in my experience, I haven't seen any crappy econo tyres like Bridgestone Ecopias or whatever come on any nicer Skoda.

That will be some of the the ones, crap tyres they buy in bulk.

Pathetic 'All Season' rubbish like Bridgestone Dualer tyres on Skoda's and SEAT / VW SUV's as Suzuki have used for years / decades as well.

Continental Premium Contact 2 'ContiSeals' on some MPV's

First thing that many want to get rid of.

I know this thread below might be about snow, but some Karoq / Ateca i drove when they first came out had the Dualers fitted and they were useless in the wet, and that was with the tyre pressures reset and not as the cars were handed over.

Then there are Pirelli Zero Nero's.  Well no matter the price, there are some rubbish ones.

At what speeds did the standard car get to? Was the 4WD much better than 2WD.

When seeing this, it's the first question I asked myself - how does the non-battery version fair?

Can't find a video for a Superb estate but the ordinary Passat didn't fair any better.

OK so lets have a look at a Kodiaq RS. Oh jeez. I wouldn't like to have been the moose.

A 2.0d Karoq 4x4?  Passed at higher speeds of 80km/h with ease.

A 1.5 Octavia estate. Better than Superb but nowhere near the Karoq 4x4 at 80km/h

Conclusion - Bigger cars fair worse, 4x4 substantially improves handling. No **** Sherlock !

So we should all buy smaller 4x4 cars?  Err no. These cars are all driven by highly skilled drivers, if any of us attempted that you'd have one dead moose and a Skoda in the ditch.

A lot of it is due to weight distribution and centre of gravity as well as whether the ESP is up to scratch.

A standard Superb 1.5tsi hatch is much lighter and with DCC passes the test superbly.....

If you check out other tests, Ford and Peugeot are head and shoulders above everyone else it seems.

Btw the moose tests are all done at fully laden weight I believe, so worst case.

standard tyres on my iV are Eagle F1 235/45/R18 94W

they seem OK to me so far.

Yeah, I thought the results were rubbish but with the optional (in some markets) Ignite rims I reckon it'd fare much better. 8.5" wide rim with 255 wide tyre legitimately does feel more stable in just about every driving scenario.

Weirdly enough the mechanicals of the RS only weigh about 30kg more than the 190PS TDI. Who knows why it fared quite rubbish compared to the normal model.

If someone wants to stand in the inside lane of the M1 on my commute I will imagine your name is MOOSE and try to swerve around you at 113kph (70mph) fingers and toes crossed for a happy outcome.:whew:

The extra weight of the glass Pano roof on the test vehicle also puts extra weight where you don't want it on any vehicle if driving dynamics are important to you. As it's a safety test it is worth noting that less than 1% of all journeys are done by motorcycles in the UK however latest figures from 2018 show that motorcyclists made up 20% of all road deaths as they don't have any impact zones or multiple airbags to protect them in a collision.

The car to be tested has one belted person in each available seat and weights in the boot to achieve maximum load.

So without the panoramic roof and maximum load, I think I will take my chances anyway. 🙂

Btw. mine came with Michelin Primacy tires.

When the Cycling Road Races resume the Skoda Superb Estates will be there, maybe even iV's.

Full roof racking with bikes on and seats occupied and boot full.

Seeing the mouse test done on a Superb, Kodiaq or any just any Skoda with 3 mountain bikes up top, or Top Boxes fitted and filled would be interesting.

😂😂

Our Karoq came with Michelin Primacy tyres from the factory in Jan 2018 and after 25,000 miles they have plenty of life left in them and offer surprisingly high levels of grip for an SUV whether it is wet or dry. Not a cheap option but highly recommended and we will replace the 3 spec on our car with the latest 5 version when the time comes.
