Anyone here have Clearwire Broadband ?

Featured Replies

I love to here of Irish reports but any useful feedback would be great.

We're currently testing them in work. Apparently there a bit better than Irish Broadband.

One the other hand , I don't know of anyone else using them.

Using SMART Broadband. Have not heard of anyone using Clearwire.

Colm have you looked at www.boards.ie?

also have you checked with NTL/Chorus in your area as they are starting to offer the service too without the need for an eircom landline...

I'm waitin for chorus to finish in my area ( prob 8-9 months though :( )

The package is 30 Euro for 1st 6mts then 40 Euro a month

Upload speed 256Kbps

Download speed 1MbpsDownload allowance 10 GB

Activation fee is 40 Euro

What do you think ?

I was speaking to a friend on NTL, his is 2M download and a 16GB limit for 25 Euro (only problem is I can't get NTL but it makes me think the clearwire price is excessive)

I wouldn't go for any limits.... They're just a another method for the ISPs to get more money out of you... especially if you download the odd vidoe...etc., you're bandwidth will be gone in no time.

I've done some digging and have a work colleage with it at home testing... in swords. He can't complain about it and says its good.

I've no choice...thats the package http://www.clearwire.ie/cwi/index.php?cPath=1143

The prices of broadband over there seem high compared to over here in England.

We get our broadband from NTL at home, and for £24.99 we get 2Mb download and 256kbps upload with no download limits or caps. NTL over here have recently removed their cap on the 2Mb service but the 30GB cap remains on its 10Mb service.

Irish Broadband is available in your area AFAIK Colm

All the ISPs can be found on http://www.irishisptest.com/

I hear its crap :(

What about Smart telecom?

I hear its crap :(

How so?

yup IBB seems to have a bad rep on boards.ie as does clearwire in some areas,

maybe as the contention ratio goes up the wireless services seem to drop off...

anyone know if its possible to connect to Smart without going through Eircom, we have a line installed we just cancelled the account, so we have a physical line?

failing that I'll just have to wait for chorus to upgrade installations in Swords :(

They still have to connect through the eircom line into the house. I am moving soon and Smart say they can arrange the new connection when I move (but it will still cost me

Anyone I mention it too seems to have bad opinions of it :)

That's right, Eircom own the lines so no matter if you connect to Eircom, BT or Smart the lines have to be activated by the big E. I promised myself I wouldn't mention Eircom again, Oops I did it again :P

Bugger, fook em im waitin for Chorus BB to come throught the TV Cable! :P

fookin Eircom bunch of money grabbin wasters

Me too! Chorus are in the whole of the first estate and in more than half of the second estate - they fell out with the builders and apparently the ducting is there but they've not put in the manholes to access it. Just as well there's Sky. BT BB incidentally.
