It's in and working nicely.  :)

Didn't arrive til 11.15 yesterday, but things went pretty well thereafter.

Might chuck some pics up tomorrow.

😊 Thanks for asking. 'New' engine is serving us very well.   Done a couple of little jobs on it very recently, Coolant temperature sensor (2004 vintage) started throwing fault code

  • A small selection of photos:     Front of car off, ready to extract old engine       Replacement bolted in, lots of connecting up

  • Yep, very pleased with it. I think the dogbone mount is 'code F' though, and am waiting on a new one, probably Wednesday arrival/fit. I think then I'll really be able relax, put my feet up and say to

That was quick work  Look forward to the pics.

Did you do the job with the gearbox left in place?

Yes Lee. Seemed easier that way with the facilities I had. I'm not fond of peeing about with driveshafts when working near ground level.

Last-minute snag with a fuel hose leak, only apparent once running, but solved with a foot of fresh stuff from a local factor. :)

Yeah it's a pain.

Nice job @Wino Have to mark you down on H&S for the lifting equipment though :D

You mean the seatbelt?

That came on the replacement engine, so I figured, it's already worked.  Engine plus pallet plus free tyre was only 95kg according to the shipping info, so well adequate.

Should've seen what I used to lift the old engine out... :D

Autopsy of old engine?

Yeah, as and when. No heated shed so won't be for some time...

I've never taken the bottom end of an engine apart so not too sure what order to do things, nor what to look for.

Expect to see trouble with bearings and/or piston rings I think.

A waste of time and energy, messy too.

I replied to SuperbTWM but now realise that I should have sought your permission before expressing an opinion :notme:

certainly, but it would be interesting, educational, and I know there is a part of him that will want to

The replacement engine came from a Polo, so has oil level and temperature sender. I wonder how long I'll be able to resist adding the necessary wire to the cluster to get that to do something...

Not sure whether the cluster can display oil temp if coded right, but oil level warning facility might be useful if that at least could be enabled.

Nice work

EDIT: Deleted daft question. It's not running yet.

Is it driving nicely?

Yep, very pleased with it. I think the dogbone mount is 'code F' though, and am waiting on a new one, probably Wednesday arrival/fit. I think then I'll really be able relax, put my feet up and say to the missus; "There you go, all good for another 100k+ miles...

It wasn't a daft question Lee, it's been running since Friday 5pm, just the pictures posted finished Thursday evening.

Ah, cool :)

Gah, you already said it was running in one of your Friday posts. I really shouldn't post straight after a nap :D
