Screenwash update on Fabia 3.

Featured Replies

 Hello,

This is an update to my earlier post about my screenwash level dropping when system wasnt being used. I got it investigated under warranty when the Skoda garages returned to work at the beginning of   June..  It was    was emptied and refilled and pressure tested internally and externally and no leak was found. I was asked to monitor the drop and I am doing that. It seems to drop 50 ml in seven days.  The garage spoke to Technical Sevices and they think it might be evaporation as there is no leak.   It might well be that but  my take on it is that the positioning of the system causes it rather than warmer weather.  It must be close to heat sources like the exhaust pipe or a manifold etc for the system to work in cold weather and I think this proximity causes the small drop in level. The screenwash probably contains alcohol and that also  has a bearing   on it.   If I am correct its  probably an unsolvable issue as they are not very likely to reposition due to the cost of doing so.

Its a very small thing in the current scheme of things , I acknowledge that. The investigations are ongoing and I have no beef at all with the garage or with Technical Services.  Just for interest, have other Fabia 3 owners had this issue?

            Stay safe as they say.

It is not near the exhaust, it is in front of the O-S-F wheel behind the wheel arch liner.

This area is outside the engine bay and will be colder.

This is why you need to put in screenwash with antifreeze properties.

This would be better posted in your original post only.

Thanks AG Falco

It is not evaporation. It is a water bottle with a lid. For evaporation the water surface needs to be in contact with outside air.

The overflow screenwash pipe might not be connected properly, I take it you are filling right to the top otherwise you wouldn't notice

Where is that one, that is news to me.

The container lid is more a dust cover than anything else, it is not intended to form a hermetic seal so evaporation will occur.

Pressure test a washer bottle? Really? Washer bottles are not designed to be pressured, it is just....a water bottle. A coolant expansion tank yes, but not a washer bottle. My first thought would be if there is a hairline split at the bottom of the bottle, just enough to allow not so much as a leak, but a weep. Perhaps the weep (1-2 drops worth at a time) is then being evaporated by the engine.

Failing that, a common area is around the washer pump/motor, if its located on the bottle. I've had numerous cars with tiny splits in the tubing/pump body in the past.
