2020 DSG L & K 190PS Drive Mode Default

Featured Replies

Back into a Skoda L & K again,😀

Is there a way to set the drive mode to default to Sport or anything else but normal.

On start up it always reverts back to normal mode, on previous units I have owned on start up it was in the mode that was last selected.

No, starting from 2019 cars the default is always Normal.

Although some have suggested that if you have personalised keys, it remembers the mode chosen by each one??

I'd be grateful for any comments on this thought,  as I've added the option to my Karoq (for all of £35, and you get a third key as well) in the hope that it over-rides the 'default to normal' setting.

I think there's limitations on what startup can be. For many years the emissions / economy tests had to be done in whatever the default startup mode was (and this is not just true of cars). That's why things like Start/Stop default to on and there's no (standard) option to change that. For example our dishwasher is A++ rated because it has a default ECO mode. Just a shame that it fails to clean properly so we always use auto.

Bear in mind, too, that if it were different and you could get the car to remember to run in a different mode to that on which the emissions and consumption tests were done, people would be screaming dieselgate all over again, and demanding compensation.

 No help with this either.

I have personalsed keys (activated with VCDS by myelf).

Searched the whole internet if I can recode the default drive mode, nothing.

And lowedb is right, it all comes down to emissions.

I have L&K with personalisation from Factory - nope Drive Mode defaults to normal

Earlier models had opportunity to start with drive mode you fiished the ride. Somewhere in 2019 it changed.

It happened in the changeover to MY20 iirc.

Before that. Our May 2018 Kodiaq defaults to “normal” every time you restart. Double tap the “off-road” button is a quick workaround.

That trick doesn’t work on MY20 cars, same goes for VCDS mods to turn stop start off.

We have a June 18 Edition with the personal keys from the factory. It does keep the drive mode you want depending on the key used.

Mine always Sport on start up and my better half is individual. I just went and checked the 2nd spare key (you get 3 keys with personal system) which we have never used and it starts on Normal.

Ive done this in the Q7 by setting the drive mode to “individual” and selecting sports drive and steering within that.

it remembers this setting because of the personalised key.

anyone know how to convert an unused drive mode (Sport mode in my case), to be a second (RS 2) individual mode ?
