5 year service update - deactivated locking chrip/alarm confirmation?

Featured Replies

Got my Fabia SE L 1.2 TSI 110/DSG back from it's 5 year service, had the cam belt and water pump done at the same time. Locking chirp has now been disabled, can't re-enable it in the settings.

Has anyone else had this? Why the hell would they remove the option?

I suspect that Skoda realised the option should never have been there on EU cars. I was always surprised the option was there given the ECE rule is 'no chirp'. I reckon they thought it was OK to have it leave the factory off but allow the owner to change it. But maybe now someone has told them 'actually the rules say you can't even have the option to enable it'. I know at least one other VAG brand never had the option to switch it on for EU cars (for the same reason).

@lowedb   When did this EU Legislation come into being and what does it say?,

as brand new cars now still can arrive into the UK with a chirp from locking them or activating the alarm.

Are all doors and bonnet/boot properly closed?.

Yep just been out for another drive. Nothing on the display to show anything not shut correctly. It also seems like the automatic locking after setting off no longer works?

No options in the setting other than central locking -> single door or all doors.

Did they do any recalls., software updates, key coding?.

Do all doors and boot lock when you press lock button?.

Just to clarify has your Fabia always had these functions or like me have you had them adapted using something like VCDS

Yeah Fabby has always had them, I've never used VCDS.

Just called the dealer to clarify what "update" actually meant, I assumed they'd just do the standard radio firmware update. They performed an update relating to a recall for the airbag. They believe that these settings have been reset/knocked off due to the update and if I stop by they can correct it. Guy in the service centre said that I might be able to fix the automatic locking via the steering wheel display rather than through the radio, however I can't see any locking options in there.

Yes that happens a lot, I work in vw dealer now and the amount of times updates and things like activating CarPlay or voice control switches off something else it's a nightmare. The system is great when it works but that's not that often. They can plug your car in and run a test plan to reconfigure the 5F unit and you should get everything back

It's not new legislation. It's been around for years. The document I found easily was from 2008.

It's regulation ECE 97.01. The specific paragraph is attached. The significant part is that any signal SHALL (my emphasis) be optical. In other words shall not be audible. So technically, cars cannot arrive with a chirp from an approved alarm system that is part of the type approval.
