Door loom or a door lock fault? Central locking issues.

Featured Replies

Škoda Fabia Elegance 2011

I suspect my locking issues are caused by broken wires in the door loom, but after yesterday's visit to a garage, I'm told I need a new door lock. When I asked if they did check the door loom as I've asked them to do, answer was no, we would have to take the door card off, so will check it when we are changing the lock @£££££.

Surely, with all the electrical faults with the door already, wouldn't checking the loom be a priority???

 Issues I'm experiencing -

Internal lights on the drivers door don't work, heated mirror doesn't work, the door won't lock remotely, have to use a key and lock and unlock manually. Window still works.

When I lock my car with the remote, all doors, but the drivers door lock, alarm stays solid red colour. When I use the manual key, all doors lock, alarm enabled, steady flashing red. If I use the remote to unlock, all doors, but the drivers door unlock, alarm disables. With the manual unlocking (using a key) - all doors unlock, but the alarm is still on. So to unlock my car, without the alarm going off, I first need to use the remote key, then the actual key. It's just crazy!

Any and all thoughts will be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

You are right, they should have checked condition of wires inside the rubber gaiter

I'm no mechanic, no espert, but it's a common sense, right?

Use a different garage, preferably one that is aware of how often wires break in this part of mk2 Fabias.

Better yet, inspect the wiring yourself before involving any garage.

Is there an easy way to look? Which doesn't involve taking the door card off? Not sure how/if I can - pull back the rubber casing or unclip the ends...

The wires always break in the rubber bellows between a-pillar and door, never undr the door card as far as I know.

Easy enough to pull the rubber off its mounting at the a-pillar usually. Trickier to get back on properly but by then you'll probably have found bust wires and be well on your way to solving it. ☺️

Wiring looms are a little pricey at around £80 a door but I think you may have had several sever!

It is well worth checking both front doors, too as both can have issues, the driver side more so.

Perhaps go to a decent auto electrician, if you are not too good with wiring as they are just a little fiddly and they may do a much nicer job. You could get away with just rejoining each wire with a crimping bullet/male and female bullet but be sure to crimp well, insulate afterward and check EVERY wire.
