Ocy vRS Power Jumping Between 5mph & 40mph

Featured Replies

Hi Guys and Gals,

When i am driving my Ocy vRS between 5mph and 40mph, it can sometimes seem to jump in power when i touch the accelerator about 25% of the way. Is this normal? Its like the turbo kicks in but relizes it dont need too. It cant be the turbo cause it doesnt make no noise when it does this.

Can anyone help??

Many Thanks

James.........

I have a similar problem when pulling off in 1st 2nd & sometimes third from 0-2500revs and will watch this thread with great interest.

I thought it might be my driving style but maybe its not.

Hi lads,

it sounds similar to the way my motor was running, like the power drops off suddenly, making for very poor part throttle driving, out of roundabouts slow junctions etc...

well its completely erradicated on my motor after a recent service where a "lazy maf" was diagnosed (exchange replacement fitted) also done was to clean up a fairly manky throttle body and the plugs were replaced (car at 38K due a change at 40K anyway)

shes now running very well again...

hope this helps...

Cheers

I was thinking it was 1 of two things, thanks for that fivepint@work, yours was my second think.

1st was coil packs, second was maf.

Thats two things to ask the garage to check

I too thought about coil packs but they seem to just fail rather than go weak...

exchange MAF was 85 euros with a 2 yr warranty... throtle body is also worth doing too

Pop over to MKG and speak to Mark the service manager, get him to read any fault codes from the computer.

Where are MKG??

oh for whats its worth i didnt have any check engine lights on, ever, and AFAIK the dealer didnt mention getting any actual codes, he couldnt explain it but the MAF just seemed to be slower then the ECU needed IYSWIM...

I notice mine behaves like this too, but only when the car is running cold. After 2-3 mins of running, it seems fine. If it was a lazy MAF, would be jumpy most of the time? The only other theory I have is that it could be a dodgy temp sender.

Yep - mine has done this ever since i've had it. Only happens occasionaly and only in the first few minutes after starting from cold  TBH im not that bothered by it and thought it was more to do with something like the choke or my driving (but im a muppet on modern cars so ... :D )

we have had this problem on several 20v engines and resetting the throttle body on a dbw car can help u need to find someone with a proper copy of vag-com to find out more, if maf readings are low etc, also what air filter set-up are you running?

Mine is completely standard setup. I have VAG Com... any ideas what values I should be getting?

had this on mine... had the throttle body changed and its perfect now..

i was getting engine lights and errors pointing to a faulty TB though

i would of said u should be getting approx 150gps from the maf on a standard ish car a good tuned one will do about 180gps that would be read in 2nd/3rd gear at high revs, also try resetting the throttle body,go to engine controller then basic setting then block 060 then adaption run and thats it.

if all this fails try changing the coil packs one at a time as it could be that as-well just buy one from your local supplier.

hope all this helps

Mine was completely standard intake, no check engine light and I had fitted the latest (green) temp sensor myself to shake off the poor cold start but to no avail,

hmm dealer didnt say if MAF was underreading only that it was reading slower so maybe thats why no check engine...

mine was poor running on cold satrt and apart form hesitation/faltspots around 2500rpm it was fine, idled well too...

Throttle body cleaning did wonders for my mk1.

Where are MKG??

If you know Stevenage they are towards the end of Chells Way, at the Fairlands Valley end.

my octy rs did the same for about 6 minths but a good throttle housing clean seems to have cured it:thumbup:

Cheers guys for the feedback, how much

a TB cleaning shouldnt be costly at all, its 4 bolts and some cleaner Im sure, maybe a new gasket, only reason we can do it ourselves is the alignment afterwards afaik... exchange MAF £60 approx, try the warranty and see, private garages always differ, although i would say to go to a VAG dealer for the TB to be aligned (assuming DBW) but trust me it was worth the money for me :D
