DSG Feature or bug ?

Featured Replies

I noticed in my DSG 1.5 Kamiq while cruising in 7th speed that if I lift my foot from the gas pedal in some cases the displays changes to D ( no speed selected) and the car seems to be in Neutral.

If I press the gas pedal again the D changes to D7 and the car accelerates.

Does the gearbox really selects N ? It appears so since I don't see a down shift and there is no speed reduction due gear breaking...

Any technical changes in the DSG ? Will appreciate  professional input.

Normally if you have a mode selection button and press Eco then whenever you lift off the throttle in my Superb the gearbox does go into neutral until you either press the brake pedal or the throttle when the DSG will select the most approriate gear for the speed you are travelling. Not sure if the Fabia has a drive mode or will go into this coasting function when in drive (D).

Thanks @shyVRS245, my post relates to my new Kamiq 2020 and not the Fabia, I'm talking about Normal mode and not ECO but your explanation makes sense.

Hope it will lower fuel consumption, I actually like it and use it while slowing down before exiting highway or before a speed camera.

Do you think it may increase clutch  gear wear ?

I doubt that but more likely to wear the clutch packs by doing hard launches something which I try to minimise with 360bhp and 514nm in my stage 1 Superb. Regarding economy I save a lot of fuel using Eco on my commute lifting for roundabouts and traffic lights and avoiding braking unless absolutely necessary.

I normally have my display set to show current m.p.g. and under the conditions described, it shows "coasting". If for instance I brake, the display changes to "----" or an actual figure. This sounds like normal/by design behaviour to me.

That is it .

D and not D7, D6 etc means the DSG is in 'Coasting' Mode which enabling has to have been selected.

Read the Owners Manual and you will find the info a driver needs.

It is not going to cause wear and tear of the clutch pack.

Drive is disengaged.

Thanks @e-Roottoot and all for the information.

Coasting function, nothing to be worried about - think this feature is on most VAG group vehicles now like the Seat Arona.
