Potential problem DMF

Featured Replies

i am the proud owner of a sept 03 vrs which has developed rough running, noise and vibration from gearbox area on idle from cold.took vehicle into local dealer today no fault found.by chance i work for a ford dealer and today ford announced a recall to replace dual mass flywheel for same concern on the galaxy 1.9 tdi 130ps.same engine as the good old furby,i mentioned this to dealer who told me that it is not the same engine,is he having a laugh it is used in all VAG vehicles and galaxy diesels.and he also stated that he used to work for vw and golfs suffered with simiklar fault.so i ask you to listen carefully for any noises from gearbox ares especially if your vehicle was built upto 31/8/03:thumbdwn:

If it concerns you then try another dealer before your warranty runs out.

It is also possible that Ford may use different clutch and flywheel components.

trust me they dont they are exactly the same

galaxy uses the same VAG engine as all the golfs , audis and skoda , PD engine after year 2k , i read the FORD recall info today aswell but didn't see any build dates for affected vehicles , another mech changed a DMF on a galaxy on tuesday because it was seized , the clutch was worn but not that bad though but suspect it had had a clutch before as the vehicle had 157k miles on it , measured clutch out of interest , 240mm diameter ,is this the same as the fabia/VRS ?

They made a vr6 galaxy too

everything jason wrote in his thread is completly true, we should be pleased that we have people like him on this forum who can actually state facts about the ford and vag group vehicles as they use the 1.9 pd130 across the audi, skoda, seat, ford galaxy and vw range. the recall for the ford is absoulutly genuine and if ford have no faith in the sept 2003 batch of vag flywheels then why should skoda, vag make parts for ford motor company. if anyone is having potential problems with the flywheel on the 1.9 pd 130 engine then this information should help as a bit of backup, lets see some more helpful comments like this, thanks for the info jason!

slightly of topic but funny you should mention dual mass fly wheels im glad that ford have brought out a recall as we had a jag in with a noise from the gearbox when the clutch was depressed slightly and dts said it was the fly wheel but was classed as exceptebale noise

sorry again for the off topic random peice of info

Yes.

seen the dates today for the ford galaxy PD130 DMF recall ,1/11/02 to 31/8/03 this applies only to 130 PS engines , from what i understand of the recall if the DMF went faulty it would smash through the gearbox bellhousing and set fire to the vehicle undertray (worst case senario), now what i don't know is whether any VAG group vehicles are going to be affected i.e. early FABIA VRS or for that matter OCTAVIAs or SUPERBs with the 130ps engine , you'll have to wait for the letters:(

I seem to remember Jason (devonutopia) selling his old engine (one of his old engines!) to a Galaxy owner who fitted it and was very happy so yes, they must be the same.
