6spd box into a 4x4 - Can it be done? If so what's involved?

Just a little update on the 6spd gearbox; I called into JBS today for a cuppa as I was passing by having being working in Birmingham. The propshaft has now been modified but the gearbox won't be going back in until the engine does which will be a while yet as the pistons haven't arrived yet and it then needs to be sent off for the rebore.

I can ask but to be fair to JBS they may not want to give any secrets away. The price for the installation is very good though, just a shame the clutch and flywheel setup I need is so expensive. Without the clutch the price compares well to what I believe Stuart paid for the vRS gearbox internals fitting. I'd rather not post exact price details as mine was the first 6spd JBS have fitted to a 4x4 so their retail price for this work now they know how to do it may be slightly different.

just wondering what was included in the prop mods and whether the engine was moved at all?

i have had quotes for a mod'd and balanced prop and its not too pricey, under £300 :)

Wonder if they just used the TT front dounut then? and mounted that to the Octy prop.

If they havent realigned the prop down the car they must have moved the Engine, if they havent moved it only time can tell how long it will all hang together

I'll take a look at the prop alignment and ask what has been done when I'm there on Monday.

You may want to check whether you can utilise the drive chain from the Golf 130TDi 4 motion estates that were available only in LHD format. It shares the Octavia Mk 1 floorpan and having managed to see both vehicles up on lifts it was obvious that most of the underside running gear is very similar to my Octavia Estate 4X4. The most important point to note is that to handle the torque from the Tdi engine they have installed a very strong and leggy 6 speed gearbox which I know allows you to keep the revs low whilst cruising at high speed.

The 130TDI uses the 02M gearbox which is the one I've got (just with different ratios). The TDI ratios would be no good in a petrol car.
