Skoda Running costs

Featured Replies

Just been main dealer quoted £673.09 for the 4 year annual inspection service (at 29k) for my Fabia vRS - consisting of:

40k/4year Service - £284.08 including air, fuel and pollen filters + brake fluid

Cambelt - £389.01 including tensioners and water pump

However because when I bought it last year I paid £299 for a two-year service pack - knowing full well this one was coming up (leaving me clearly in profit for the next service) - I only pay for the cambelt elements - and because I also negotiated a £150 voucher towards the cambelt it will be "only" £239.01...

UPDATE - 5 August:

The service was actually charged at £254.31 - not sure why it came out £30 cheaper. The cost was met in full by the 2-year £299 service contract.

The cambelt was actually charged at £381.37. However as well as having the £150 voucher referred to above I also realised that I had 2x£50 vouchers as a "reward" for buying the service contract. Since the vouchers were available to use on "parts" as well as "accessories" they were allowable on the cambelt parts. Hence I had £250 knocked off the bill and paid £131.37 - "the cheapest cambelt in history" said the service receptionist!

  • I know this hasn't really been added to much of late, but as my car is getting on a bit, figured I'd post the work it's had done over the last 9 years/100,000 miles. It's a 1.4 16v (AUB) Fabia estate

Fabia vRS 06

Services (All Main Dealer)

10k Service (Mileage 7,196) - £183.18

20K Service (Mileage 16,124) - £292.67

30K Service & MOT (Mileage 24,079) - £172.72

40K Service & MOT (Mileage 31,118) - £307.19

Additional Repairs (All Main Dealer)

Problem - Air con hissing/not cold

Air con service/replaced expansion valve (Mileage 25,982) - £168.37

Problem - Car cut out when driving/wouldn't start

Traced fault to collapsed turbo charger. Replaced turbo charger & intercooler. Cleaned air intake pipes. 100% parts goodwill contribution from Skoda (Mileage 27,815) - £207.00

Problem - Car wouldn't start & creaking suspension

Checked battery, starter motor, located cause as problem with live wire to starter (Mileage 31,515) - £90

Replaced anti-roll bar linkages (Mileage 31,515) - £77.66

TOTAL + VAT = £197

How come you got the parts for the turbo and intercooler as a goodwill contribution from skoda? Or was this warrenty work?

Also, any recent updates for us?

Cheers

Hi, I have updated the thread with the latest service and MOT cost. I also forgot to add the VAT to the 40,000 service so I have also amended that. I have also had the Cam Belt changed and all 4 doors sealed and the trackings sorted (all at the same time).

I had the parts for the turbo and intercooler as goodwill as the car had a full Skoda service history, had only covered 27,000 ish miles and was around 6 months out of warrenty. To be fair the dealer was extremely helpful with this. I didn't even ask for the goodwill, they just offered it straight away.

50k Service & MOT ((Mileage 36,366) - £159.80

Curious that the 30k service and noticeably the 50k service were both cheaper than the 10k - and even included an MOT - which itself can cost over £50. Are you sure those were full "annual inspection" services since the cost taking out the MOT would suggest an "oil change" one was carried out. Conversely the 20k and 40k were a bit pricey - though I presume you've included the brake fluid change with those. Any reason for having the cambelt late at nearly five years?

I did change dealer after the 20k service as the original one closed, so their version of the 30k and 50k service could well have been different. I just booked them in as 30k and 50k services and left the rest up to them. The brake fluid change was included with the 20k and 40k services. I suppose I took a bit of a chance with the cambelt and let it go slighlty past the four year limit.
