The MK1's were never factory fitted with alarms. If you have an audible alarm or it beeps when you lock or unlock, then it will be aftermarket.

So you'll need to find the maker of the alarm, sometimes there will be a speaker hidden in the engine bay somewhere and you'll see wiring going into the bulkhead somewhere.

It's been a talked about on here (a lot), but I've had 4 MK1 VRS's (two of which I've still got) and I've got a MK1 Octavia Estate L&K and none have had alarms. The most we got was an Immobiliser, and yes while there are Alarm settings within VCDS (Vag-Com) as you can change the country to set the volume of it, we never had it in the UK.

I'll double check my paperwork and see if it was an optional extra, but I'm pretty sure we it wasn't.

*2)The characteristics of the visual and audible signal may differ according to the country...
The above is on the same page, it wasn't an option in the UK. However, you may find that the hazards flash which is due to the internal interior monitor. If you can call it an alarm, it's very basic.

I doubt the handbook says it has an alarm but will have instructions for one.

Most manufacturers use the same handbook for more than 1 model, for example some models will have just air con but the book will also have instructions for climate.

That's what I meant - seems that the handbook had the alarm instructions for those buyers that had been sensible enough to spec it as an option, but that it wasn't a standard feature, I just wondered if anyone knew 100% definitely whether that was the case.

We're talking 2003 though, not 1983 - most cars ( certainly range topping ones) had factory fit alarm/immobilisers by then.

The handbook will cover all possible options, even if never available in the UK. All cars built from about 1996 onwards have to have an immobiliser fitted by law but there is no such requirements for an alarm.

As for the door micro switch.

This might be of some interest to you, it's a guide to replacing the door switch (which is built into the lock)

Might be worth asking Skoda Norway, I'm sure there will be someone who works in the garage who used to work on the old MK1's.

There used to be an active Dutch forum - worth looking to see if it's still alive.
