Short USB C cable for dashcam

Featured Replies

Hi what dash cam would people recommend?

I bought a £30 one on amazon however the rear view mirror USB C port doesn't provide it with enough power to stay on!

Thanks

I’m currently using a nextbase 512g with no problems so far

Just realised my USB socket on the rear view mirror isn't a permanent supply. Not much use for my dash cam then as I had mine set to record any motion when parked. Good one Skoda

You wouldn't usually want it permanent, that's how it knows when you go on and off.  Most have a battery built in, so they can still come on when parked?  I'd be really annoyed if it was permanent!

I clearly have no idea how to use this board, haha, sorry.

The battery in dash cams is only really there to record a few seconds after an accident in the event that the power gets cut off. Most of them don't even have proper batteries, just capacitors. My one and several others I've seen have a "parking mode" where they are on but not recording unless they detect motion e.g. Someone walking in front of them. Essentially a security camera for the car. I used to run mine from the 12v in my Mk3 Superb which was a permanent supply but don't have that option in the mk4 Octavia.

Hi. I have an SE Tech on order for delivery next month. Has anybody been able to find a really short USB C to micro USB cable for connecting a dashcam to the rear view mirror? Shortest I’ve found is 30cm which is a bit long.

I bought this

1x For LG AG-S250 USB Mini to Type C Charger Power Short Cable Lead

from Onbuy.com £3.99 delivered in 4 days.  300mm Works fine.

I found an angled USB c to micro usb cable on Amazon. Got a Garmin mini dash camera for the Octavia when it comes next week. Can't wait to get it set up

Just about the subject- would anyone know if the usb c socket can be retrofitted? I have my car with tiny blanking plate there.

You'd imagine so but I think it would be easier to just go for a dashcam wire kit. It's kind of on the wrong side for us in the UK anyway...

This is very disappointing, I pick up my Octavia iv tomorrow and was planning to use the USB socket so I didn't have to go straight into the fuse box, the fact it's not permanently live makes it useless if you want parking mode though.

I’m glad that this topic exist as I have just bought a 2022VRS and love it but have not bought a Blackvue dashcam and of course it come with a dc 4 x 1.7 power adapter. And I cannot seem to find a male usbc to dc 4 x1.7 ! 😫🤦‍♂️

Do you mean something like this at amazon?

Another place to look is AliExpress. I found a few there.

Something like that but has to be a male usbc, unless I just get an adapter .
thank you for the input though. 🙏

Just get a PD or USB C to USB C cable, not the perfect solution but it would work.
