Oil Recomendation for 1.4 TSI RS CAVE

Featured Replies

Hello,

Need advice, what oil should i use on my Fabia, the thing is, curently i have 10w-60 and in previous article i was recomended to have 5w-30 or 5w-40, which one should i use ?  and specific brand etc. From Castrol site i was recomended only 5w-30 specifilcly this oil CASTROL EDGE 5W-30 C3 and this  CASTROL MAGNATEC STOP-START 5W-30 A3/B4

Where did you see as an oil to use 10W-60?

Is that just oil you have around or is that in your engine?

*The Brand does not matter, it just needs to be to the Spec.*

Maybe avoid the VW504 00,  so Long Life oil recommended by VW Group, & maybe avoid Castrol as well considering more than 20% of Twin Charger engines built 2009-2012 failed!

VW / Skoda recommend VW504 00 / VW 507 00,  so 5w 30 Full Synthetic for fixed or Variable Servicing.

VW502 00 so 5w 40 FS can be used for Fixed OIl Servicing.

Hello,

in one service they changed it to 10w-60 for some reason and cold starts are bad with this oil.
i am living in Czech Republic, so do u recommend 30 or 40 ?

Is that a Typo, or Were they trying to hide oil use?

I recommend 5w 40 FS to VW 502 00.    As did Skoda with the first built Twinchargers when they had them on Fixed Service Intervals.

Yep, tried to hide oil consumption

Well that is an issue that needs addressing then.

?

You dealt with proper cowboys.

I know, not gonna visit this service anymore. I went to other service and they said the oil computation fix could cost 2 500 euro so..:D why is 5w-40 better than the 30 ?

The oil fixes should not cost more than £1000 or 1000euro, Ive always used Castrol Edge 5w-30

5w30 for me also.

In terms of the oil jets fix, looking at that above receipt that includes breather hose, new crank case pipe, new throttle body, PCV hose, sealant, health check & oil consumption test. I priced it up before and you can do the oil fix for less than £100 yourself as the new jets can be sourced for £15 a piece from Europe.

x4 jets - £60

Sealant -£8

Providing you can clean up and salvage the rest from what you already have on the car and handy with a tool set, This perceived hard job can be done for what is effectively buttons.

Skoda Colne had my car a FULL week while they did the 'open heart surgery' & I only went ahead as the head tech said he had done a few of them all with good results. In the process the car was detuned to around 173bhp, ive always wondered how mostly the CTHE 2012-14, got round the oil problem as the replacement oil jets are from the older CAVD Scirocco but weren't used as a fix until after the VRS 2014 went out of production...unless the older oil jets were sneaked into the CTHE version.

I changed the oil yesterday to Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A3B4 and the car is less noisy ( cold starts do not sound like baby TDI) and i can say it is better. one thing i do not undestand, is the oil capacity is 3,6 L and i was able to put whole 4L canister and the oil meter sais there is half of the meter :D

One more thing about the oil consumption, is there any tutorial how to do it with the jets sealant etc ? I get my car fixed and looked after with my good friend who knows about cars so we could do it one day.

Technicians and mechanics that were filling CAVE / CTHE engines to the correct level on the dipstick when the engines are at Normal Operating Temperature filled and do fill with 3.9 or 4 litres of oil.

That gives the correct reading. Area A of the cross hatch which includes the flat bit above.

& that is on the flat above the cross hatch and below the orange blob when checked cold.

Unless the red oil light was on or virtually empty / drained from sump, then you could have overfilled

@Kobayashi

Next time you change your oil and if the reading is showing in Area A on your dipstick just measure how much oil you remove.

Suck it and then drain with the sump plug out or just drain.

If it is 3.9 or 4 litres oil in is not overfilled.  The 4.2 that some Dealerships techs put in certainly is.

Far too many Twinchargers run low oil quantity and run hotter oil that takes more cooling.

Only ever need half litre top up once a year now, many years ago in the oil burning days used to have put in half a litre with every fuel top up.

Jeez I knew the oil usage was bad but was horrendous ☹️
