Does anyone know what this fault code means?

Featured Replies

When running a scan on the instrument cluster with vcds I get fault 01197 Power Train Data Bus; Incorrect Software Version. Anyone know what this means?

Only fault I can obviously see is that the speedo overestimates by about 5-6%.

No idea. That is completely normal behaviour for a speedometer though.

Anything to do with the instrument cluster probably means it's a good idea to reflow all the solder joints on its connectors though, unless already done.

I can only guess that the fault code is spurious, caused by a brief power spike or interruption scrambling the coding, check the coding using the engine module in VCDS, for example my old 1.4 16V used to occasionally recode itself as a 1.4 8V and I'd have to recode it manually back to 0071.

This code is usually given when there is a software mismatch between the ecu and the other modules (after ecu swap, usually) or when vcds sees a ecu software version that is known to be causing issues. Thus urging you to update it.

HAHA...mine never "lost 8 valves"......but the dash did a good impression of a Xmas tree when I was braking & turning the wheels whilst driving though standing water...the ABS unit basically could not cope with what I was trying to do & said F***you & threw a strop & numerous spurious fault codes....
