fit bit being a xxxx

Featured Replies

im using fit bit app for trackin my runs the last few weeks. and its great, except...

the last 2 runs ive done, just now and Wed morning, its not so great.

its making run nearly 200m farther to cover my 5k, on the exact same route ive been runing for 3 weeks.

and whats sickening is that both runs wouldve been under my target time if the finish point was in the same place as previously!

anybody else use it and have the same problem?

update...

from searching and reading some of the fitbit community forums, the gps tracking is crap. some people have reported it losing kilometers off their run... one guy did a 10k fun run event that his fitbit tracked as only being 8.7km.

another guy ran the same route 3times with 2 apps running - samsung health and fitbit.

samsung health varied about +/- .06km. fit bit lost almost 1km from 1st 2nd run, and another 1km on his 3rd run...

so, fitbit seems to be crap.

going to try strava instead..

I have a Garmin forerunner, its never more than 20m out over the course of a semi-marathon, they have KM markers and mine triggers within meters and you can hear all the other watches beeping in proximity to it.

Its worth the investment for the functionality of the app, if I zoom in very close on the map of a run I have done I can see the different lines taken through bends on the outward and return legs, even where I have walked  to the side of the verge to take a leak.

My Garmin watch is totally reliable and has never lost the GPS signal.

I have by mistake switched it off but i use a Tracker on my Smart Phone when cycling and it is never switching off or losing data.

So that means the GPS in your phone is pants, so unless you buy a GPS watch, or get a new phone (or move somewhere with less tall buildings/trees/pylons) you'll have the same problem methinks.

not going by the online communities i was reading last night... one guy ran a 10km road race that fitbit said was 8.7km..

another guy ran nike+ simultaneously with fitbit on a known route and there was almost 2km of variance in fitbit over 3 runs where strava was about 20m..
