iV - Best hybrid settings for medium range journeys?

Featured Replies

I've had my Superb iV now since September and it's great.

I can manage fine ll week, to and from work on a charge at each end doing 20 mile there, 20 mile back. I have a charghe point at home and one at work.

What I'd lile to  know is what would you consider the best setting to drive on for longer journeys, for example, when I do a 100 mile round trip at the weekends with only one charge option, the car will always start in full "e" mode and run on battery for about 20-25 miles then switch to hybrid with the battery light on red. I'd then have to run 75 miles (for example) in this mode.

I've tried using Hybrid mode set to Auto but again, the battery usually exhausts itslelf and it drives (still in ybrid mode) but with the light on red

I have also tried using Hyrbrid mode and setting the battery recouperation to manual and ensuring it always stays at 50% but that makes me think its not themost economical way to drive?

In your exerience, what would you recommend for these kind of journeys to maximise efficiency?

Cheers

If you set the sat nav for your journey it will pick the best options for you I believe. Other than that it would be the normal hybrid mode.

?

What is the MPG or miles per litre you get now on longer journeys?

Is it not as simple as brimming the fuel tank before journeys are seeing what is the most economic for petrol use as you use it.

Do the same trips but using the modes differently and eventually you must reach some conclusion.

Logically you would want to use EV mode in urban areas and in congestion and Hybrid mode for the highway. At the end of the journey you would want a depleted battery where you can then recharge from a power source.

I don't know how good the Skoda system is for harvesting braking energy. Toyota's hybrids are very good and even with their relatively small NMH batteries achieve 50mpg or better in town so I'd hope that Skoda's are comparable.

On a flat open highway where little or no braking is involved then you are almost entirely dependent on the efficiency on the ICE unit but if you are travelling through hilly or even mountainous terrain then a Hybrid with good recuperative braking should offer considerable savings over a pure ICE vehicle.

A friend has a BMW X3 hybrid- he has done lots of research into the correct settings.

Ideally, you want the electric power for acceleration/speeding up and ICE unit for cruising.
