Brake Assist

Featured Replies

When was Brake Assist added to the Fabia VRS, or at what chassis number?

How do you know if its working ?

My VRS was new Oct 05, does it have it ?

Jules

Off the top of my head they started fitting it sometime in October 2005.... 90% sure....

mmm mine is an april 05, and I don't have it.

for the less knowledgeable among us what is brake assist?

we have had our Vrs just over a week now and its done 750 miles

we are both of the same opinion that the brakes are not so good unless you stand on them?

anyone experienced the same?

AFAIK, the system monitors how quickly you depress the brake pedal (ie, in an emergency you're likely to stand on it) and takes decisions in these circumstances about what it thinks you should be doing such as keeping full braking force applied rather than backing off if you come off the brakes a little.

If you stamp on the pedal it give you 100% braking straight away, but if yu back off it does too. ;) You still have 100% control over the brakes.

Hi

I have it on my October 05 car. As far as I can work out, it gives normal assistance up to a certain brake pedal pressure, then gives increased assistance past a cretain point. Backing off from this poit brings the assistance level back down again. The assistance does not seem to be related to the rate at which the pedal is applied and does not automatically apply 100% braking force as it does not trigger the ABS when it activates unless you press harder still on the pedal.

I can tell you it is a right pain in the @sre if you like to drive fast down country lanes. The system seems to come in just at the rate I like to approach bends when having a "fun" drive. You come up to the bend building the braking force up and just at the wrong time, you get even more braking. So it feel like the system goes from slightly under servoed to completely over servoed and really messes up the fine modulation of braking that a driver having a little fun needs.

Skoda, if you are listening, please drop this system, it is:pants: and has no place on a sporting model.

This is absolutely right, and I agree 100%, I (thankfully) don't have it on mine, but did have it on my old C2 GT, and you could set it off if you approached a roundabout, and braked in a "brisk" way, it was annoying as hell, because full brakes would SUDDENLY be applied, and the hazzards would come on!!

It is fine as a safety feature for old grannies in big mercs, but as Chris says, not in a "sporting" car, it can be set off too easily....

Chris, Another ADI out doing "safety" runs just to see how fast a pupil could take the road right???

you wouldn't find me doing that ;)
