Jacking points

Featured Replies

My question is is when I Jack the car up at it's a jacking points under the seals where you have the extra strength and jacking seal which is roughly about where the books that specifies obviously the same on all vehicles but my problem is if I Jack it up at this point and wish to put the car on axle stands can I actually go back a little bit further to put the axle stands under the seal which doesn't look strengthened without damaging them once I lead the Jack out can the car rest on these softer point on the appoint underseal on my previous car's you could check them up at the rear axle and at the front frame but these new Octavia is covered underneath would it be safe to put axle stand on the softer part of the seal which is not straightforward and then withdraw the actual Jack surely there must be away without caving in the under seals where it is not strengthened obviously these new cars and made lighter so so you must only hit the Pacific points

Personally i have always put the axle stands so it supports the car by the chassis rails. However i haven't had my octavia up on axle stands so cant comment how easy it is to do on these. But you wont go wrong on the chassis rails

If jacking one corner at a time I usually jack it by the correct point and place the stand next to the jack a bit further along the sill and let the stand only take some of the weight.

If propping up on stands both sides I jack up on the sill to allow me to place the stand on the jacking point.

For what it's worth I use rubber inserts on both stands and trolley jack.

Ok mate that makes sense I thought it would be something like that I will keep an eye on the the soft part of the seals and then lifted up and put it on axle stands on the hardpoints I usually use ice hockey pucks they are durable and can take the weight without damaging anything thanks a lot

Coming into this conversation as an outsider as I don't have an Octavia, I was reading the OP as a question on how to lift the car up in a way that then allows "you" to space axle stands in, in place of the trolley jack.

If I'm correct there, then yes these 4 "car's own jack" lifting points that you would use to change a wheel, in my eyes, are the correct positions to locate axle stands.  That leaves working out where to lift using a trolley jack,

As I don't have any experience of these cars in this sector of VW Group products, I would expect that it would be possible to fit "jack point protectors" like the ones available for some  VW Golfs, certainly this appears to be a viable option for SEAT Leons.

I have been fitting Audi TT "jacking point protectors" to VW Polos since 2002 or so, at least to 2 Polos, a 2002 one and a 2015 one, and it makes lifting it up using trolley jacks and sitting them on axle stands so easy.

My older daughter has a 2019 SEAT Leon Cupra, but she likes to use her money on other more important things, so she or her boyfriend have not investigated retro fitting suitable "jacking point protectors" - by the way, these 4 jacking points tend to be located/are holes that currently are plugged/covered with nylon bungs as opposed to softer rubber bungs, and they were used in the factory to locate the body while it gets moved around the assembly line.  I prefer to lift all my family's cars one side at a time by using 2 trolley jacks and so probably place a bit less stress on these points when lifting the car up before placing the axle stands in place, that is my current personal preference and nothing more.

Currently I've on a bit and now use devices that allow me to lift  my cars and then slip  supporting stand while the trolley jacks are still in place, ie by using jackstands, but that costs a lot on money.
