Bodywork material

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm going to be a owner of a 2021 Karoq in the next few weeks and I am wanting to purchase some door panel dent protectors as the parking where I live has really tight spaces.

I just wanted to find out if I could attach magnetic door dent protectors like the link below? Would something like this magnetise to the doors and side panels?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/ML-INNOVACIONES-removable-protection-protectors/dp/B07RQ7Y5ZX/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=door+dent+protector&qid=1605903006&sr=8-9

thanks in advance

I don't see why they wouldn't stick - however, looking at the picture.............are you sure?

Welcome to the forum.

Unless it is your own private tight parking and secure, would someone not just pinch the magnetic panels?

Maybe an older Citroen Cactus would by a better buy.

Wow, they are ugly!

I liked the stick on ones on my Yeti, wonder if they are the right size for the Karoq?

There are some like this on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/new-SKODA-KAROQ-Side-Protection-Mouldings-Door-Protector-Rubbing-Strips-/333267319980  :

The one's I had for my old Tiguan were colour coded to the paintwork and cost about £130 from the VW dealer direct (10 years ago mind).  If they get dinged then I just sanded them a bit and touched them up.  The ones above look like black rubber.  They stopped all the yummy mummies with ther big "Range rovers" and "Porche Cayennes" whacking their doors open wide to get to the kiddies in the seats in the back of thier cars (and using my car as a door stop). Would have made a real mess of it over a period of a year or so but the strips are plastic and so absorb the dings.  If you combine those with the wheel arch protectors (especially for the rear where the door forms part of the arch) you should be pretty well covered, all will look like its from the factory and your lovely new Karoq won't look like a POS :-)

A whole lot nicer looking than those monstrosities you were looking at imho.

The monstrosities are obviously for attaching when parked up and not for driving about with on.

Thin black or colour coded strips might or might not stop the edge of someone else's door damaging the paint, that obviously depends on the other vehicles height and where there furthest out place is when a door id open.

There are threads on numerous car forums showing photo's of "extreme parking" where those of us who care about our car go to great lengths to find somewhere to park where the morons can't open their car door against your car....

I always park at the furthest end of supermarket car parks where the lazy and feckless can't be bothered walking from. At work I have managed to find somewhere round the back that nobody else bothers with....

A perpetual problem and I sympathise with the OP if he can't find anywhere to park away from others who don't give a toss about your property.....

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Like Phil245 I do tend to park as far away as possible from any other cars but when I'm back at where I live it's allocated parking so I don't really have choice and the people that park next to me really don't care. For my previous car I did do some janky DIY setup with bungee cord and pipe insulation that would hook to the wheel arches. I thought for this car seeing as it is new i would get something a bit more professional, so i was looking into these magnetic style attachments to use while the car was parked at home only.

I have see these things too which i do prefer over the sheet version i linked before.

I just wanted to make sure the body work was magnetic before pulling the trigger on a purchase.

Smear the side of your vehicle with fresh cow manure each time you park, that will keep them away and the bonus being it will look less like **** than the things costing mega-bucks :D

The other thing is that if it's allocated parking then you will know the person doing it. You could perhaps take a time stamped photo of the sides of the car each day and you could then send then a bill for the repair of the damage as you could prove it was them or someone they gave permission to park in their allocated space. If they didn't want to play ball you could make a claim on your insurance and give the insurer the proof (by way of the time stamped photo's from when you left the vehicle showing no damage at the point you left it) and instruct your insurer to persue them (and their insurance) using your legal cover for damages.  That might stop the tw*t from doing it again.

You coild also have a word with the property freehold holder (or the management group for the property) and ask them to send an offical notice to the other leasholders explaining that the behavior is unacceptable and that insurance claims will be sought if damage occurs.

Must sympathise with the OP's situation. Those of us that want to look after our 'pride & joys' seem to be a minority - we are surrounded by masses that just don't give a monkeys about other peoples property and I personally feel that PCP's, Leasing and similar car 'rental' finance packages contribute to the attitude ''its only rented, so what will a few dings in the door and / or chips on the door edges matter when it goes back in 2 or 3 years and I'll get a new one to start it all over again with''.  At least we are fortunate enough to also have a 13 year old car that we can take to the shops/supermarket instead of the new one.

I have huge sympathy with the plight of mad8x.This issue will simply never go away unless like me, you choose to park in far away corners of car parks in order to avoid those careless and thoughtless others. I get taunted from those that know me for my parking habits, but too bad. In the last few years cars I have owned have remained ding and dent free. Perhaps I'm a bit of a saddo, but take a look around as there are a few others who seek out isolated parking in order to help protect their cars. If I were mad8x, no way would I have a new vehicle given his parking arrangements. Good luck.

I like the look of these but am concerned how effective they will be. I can't see how they would protect against another Karoq driver's door as the bottom part of the door would contact first. Go to the Ebay site and compare the Karoq door picture with the Tiguan door picture. The Karoq door position is inset.

Not a saddo at all - many of us are the same.  I refused to go to my brothers flat (that has the narrowest reserverd spaces on the planet) on the way back from collecting my new Karoq (200 miles away) and instead chose to pay for a hotel room for the night as their car park was nice and spatious.

Hi tom,

I did see some for the Karoq that are lower down.  On my Tiguan the proud spot was 1/2 way up the door but these are lower down. Maybe they are better (if you get the arch protectors too ever better still). It also means they cant be pinched.  Its on Superskoda??

At the end of the day you have to do what makes you feel happy and keeps the car safe from dings.  Maybe someone else has these and can comment.  http://www.superskoda.com/Skoda/KAROQ/Karoq-side-doors-bottom-stripes-glossy-black-4pcs-set-SPORT-LINE-look

not the attitude most take when you get charged about £60 for each ‘ding’ after the lease car pre return imspection.
