Aggh! Maps update requires 32gb card Skoda only 16Gb?

Featured Replies

I can almost hear the collective groan as I type this. Just bought a 2017 Yeti with Amundsen mibi2 version ? Maps have not been updated. Darn it followed the instructions and deleted the card without backing it up. Error 1 ..... tried to download current Europe map to retain the area coverage I had and to include Spain and Italy on the same map.  Error 2 Can’t do it card needs to be 32gb Skoda card. Deleted this and tried to install last years map as this only needed 16Gb to work..,  still not working in the unit. error 3  I’m using a MAC. Is there an easy way to do this. Can you buy 32 gb replacement Skoda cards to use the current maps. Etc etc is it safe to get someone to reprogram the Amundsen to accept non Skoda 32 gb cards. Basically looking for a long term solution. Enjoying the great radio and phone functions ;-)  but absolutely no SATNaV now.

Latest maps still fit on a 16GB card despite it claiming a 32GB is required. Part of the problem is your Mac is probably adding extra files and taking up space. Some people claim formatting with fat32 and a 4k sector size helps too.

I've never heard of anyone hacking the headunit to allow 3rd party SD cards. Some SD cards let you change their CID (like a serial number) to match the Skoda/VW CID and will work, although they can be expensive to buy and you'll need the appropriate skills to change the CID.

The easiest solution is to buy a 32GB card, no idea what the dealer price is but eBay is £25-35 and another well respected forum member (Rustynuts) sells them:

Yes agreed about the maps.  Skoda always said that the 16G card was going to struggle with the ECE1 maps at some point.  I've manage to put the 20/21 maps onto a 16G card for my MIB2.5 Amunsden for my VRS, but I took the plunge and got a 32G card for my Scout middle of this year.....everything from Iceland to Russia....cool...
