New Superb Estate Sportline Plus spec

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm quickly convincing myself to order a new Sportline Plus estate with the following spec and just wondered if anyone had any comments to add or tips to consider?

I feel like the below is decided upon:

  • 2.0 TDI 150 DSG
  • Solid grey
  • Virtual cockpit
  • Canton

I'm undecided on:

  • Spare wheel - I want one, I don't mind if it's space saver or not but what is the crack with the variable boot floor? How does it work and why does the smaller space saver need it?
  • USB in rear view mirror - although it's pricey it would be neat for the dashcam so would probably get it
  • Tow bar - I'm loathe to pay Skoda price but will need one fitting. Is the tow bar prep option necessary ahead of getting a tow bar later? I would only be towing small relatively light trailer - no van.
  • Parcel shelf - is the standard removable parcel shelf your normal pull out or release type estate parcel shelf or do I need to option the 'retractable' parcel shelf?
  • Rear camera - I think I can manage just with sensors
  • Heated windscreen - no doubt a nice to have but I can probably live without.

Anything else you would recommend considering or comments on above?

thanks in advance

Spare wheel - wouldn’t ever want a car without one having suffered several punctures in inconvenient locations!

(mine is a space saver of sorts as the standard wheels are 235/40/19 and apparently that size will not fit without raising the floor)

Usb for mirror, no idea about but running a dash cam socket from a piggyback fuse behind the glove box and hiding the cable behind the a pillar trim is easy enough.

tow bar, if you need one you need one!

parcel shelf - mine is a hatch so not sure but my wife’s Fabia 3 estate has the retractable one fitted, presumed it was standard?

rear camera, never had before but now I have got it I wouldn’t be without it. (As well as the front and rear sensors, had park assist on my mk2 but that was an unnecessary gimmick that was used rarely)

heated windscreen, never had but would definitely if it’s not too expensive to add (this morning’s pre 6am start scraping ice is a good reason....)

oh and virtual cockpit looks nice but surely you’ve selected the wrong engine? Should be the 4x4 272 petrol turbo variant.... :D

Can you still order the 150? Some cars are not available from stock now. If you are only looking to pick 1 of the options you have listed, the heated windscreen would be the one to have. The towbar doesn’t need towbar prep but I would wholeheartedly recommend the genuine Skoda ORIS made towbar. It releases via a lever on the rear sill plate and swivels into place, much nicer than getting on your knees to install the tow ball. Also any towbar installation for a Superb requires ODIS to re calibrate the ACC so in the light of this I would go genuine as it may not be much more expensive depending on quotes to fit an aftermarket bar. The spare wheel/vario floor thing is just a con by Skoda to make you buy both. I would buy a wheel and tool set on eBay if you don’t want the vario floor, will fit right in. The parcel shelf is a retractable blind, the £55 extra is to have the shelf automatically retract half way when the boot is opened. If you want a rear camera later, aftermarket and genuine cameras can be fitted. I do them regularly.

I couldn't live without the heated windscreen, I would definitely get that if you can. You'll never need to scrape the windscreen again! Both my cars have a heated windscreen, I couldn't live without it now. :)

Definitely get a spare wheel - the space saver fits under whichever floor you have in the boot.

I'd also get the USB in the rear view mirror - easier than hard wiring in the dashcam yourself - and it'll be a smarter installation.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the virtual cockpit - it's a nice to have, not essential in my view - better to use the money elsewhere.

It's all a matter of individual choice and needs.  In my case:

  • Virtual cockpit - I've got it and after an initial play set it to tacho and speedo.  If it could display google maps it may be different, but it can't so I ignore it.
  • Spare wheel - I don't like tyre gunk, so a must for me.
  • Variable floor - sorry, not got it.  Wasn't particularly bothered either.
  • USB -didn't even know that was an option!  In the Octavia running a cable from the fusebox was easy, not sure with the Superb
  • Tow bar - have got it, and love it.  Searching around on here I came to the conclusion that the OEM option wasn't over priced and as SashaGrace said, nicely integrated.
  • Parcel shelf - as SashaGrace said.  In mine the 1/2 way retract is there as standard, so I assume it will be the same for you.
  • Rear camera - not got one.  Will have to get one - the estate is a big thing in Tesco.....  Lock down means I'm not driving much so not such an issue here and now.
  • Heated screen - I believe its a thin conductive oxide, so no wiggly tungsten wire as in the Land Rover/ Ford/ Mini models.  A nice to have, and is infra-red reflective in summer, but the heater is pretty good and even the petrol has a supplementary (electric) heater so hot air within a couple of minutes.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

  • Looks like the 150 TDI can be ordered but the 190 can't, so I guess the 190 is only available from stock but is now replaced with the 200 for new orders? Or am I misunderstanding?
  • Rear camera - sounds like it might be worth stretching to it
  • Tow bar - sounds like the extra Skoda cost is worth it if it's a bit neater
  • Parcel shelf - understood, definitely don't need the auto retracting one then!
  • Heated windscreen - maybe I'll save the £315
  • Spare wheel - probably save myself a hundred quid or so and get one off ebay

I'm looking at ordering what will probably be a 21 plate from new car discount unless I can find a better price elsewhere.

Bought a Feb 2020 SEL DSG 150PS diesel Superb 6 weeks ago for £22,850 (new £33,000) with VC, reversing camera, blind spot detection, CANTON and 205 tyre spare wheel and it is the perfect spec for the Superb with enough tech to spot getting bored and great value as my car came from Skoda HQ with just 6,250 miles on the clock. Best economy so far on my 27 mile commute was 78mpg and it does just 1,600rpm at 70mph in 7th gear is very quiet and great ride on the standard 18" Zenith alloys with Continental 235/45R18 tyres. Still on first tank done 350 miles at an average of 66mpg indicated. Nearly 71mpg yesterday on the commute. Amazing car with leather interior, heated front seats and electric drivers seat all standard plus electric tail gate.

Does anyone know why heated steering wheel with paddles appears as an option for the sportline plus? I thought this was standard for the SLP?

Heated wheel isn’t standard, or at least it hasn’t been for any previous model years. Only L&K had the heated wheel for MY20.

Hi

i have just (on Saturday) taken delivery of a sport line plus that was ordered in early sept and i have the 3 spoke heated wheel, but noticed on the online configurator now it is down as a option to get it heated now but when I ordered was not.

Heated wheel is definitely listed now on the standard spec:

I would check that with a variety of dealers. The brochure for the Octavia vRS for a time stated that they came with cornering front fog lights and they didn’t. Skoda brochures and configurators are littered with mistakes. Every Superb estate I’ve fitted a camera to has the automatic retract parcel shelf and none of those owners paid for it so it may have a heated wheel, it may not. Check on stock cars where you can.

I've had my Sportline (pre-plus) for nearly 3 years now. My experience:

  • Spare wheel. Get one. I had a puncture fully laden on the M1 that no foam would have fixed and it got me out of dodge. I wouldn't own a car without one now. Not everywhere has the 19" tyres in stock so don't think you will always be able to pick up a new tyre easily.
  • USB sounds brilliant for a dashcam, I couldn't have it in 2018 but I would have done for sure.
  • Tow bar. Get the OE one for sure, so much better than any aftermarket one, drops down out of the bumper and its so easy to store away that you actually do do it! Its really excellent and actually not much more than an aftermarket one if you get a proper coded one etc.
  • Camera. We paid extra for one and its brilliant. Especially with the tow bar, it makes reversing up to and under a hitch so easy and there is no way you'll do that with sensors. I tow a couple of big trailers that are hard to drag around so getting the hitch perfectly in place is lovely.
  • Love our heated screen. You could live without but I wouldn't if you can afford it.

I have a 67 sportline 190 4x4 hatch

Dealer installed a front and rear dash-cams so cannot comment. Thought would of been nice to have on the stereo screen rather than a small part of the dash cam screen for reversing.

Heated screen for me is a must have! The on on my superb is much better than the one on my 16 plate VRS TDI estate.

I’ve got a tyre goo kit but looking to get a proper spare for it.

Loverly car, found mine pre loved from Skoda with 12k on clock earliest in the year at a really good price.
