  • That's no ordinary home garage,  with an air line on a runner and lifting beam bolted to the ceiling!

  • Here in Germany it is only a requirement for the tyres to have the alpine symbol on.   Since we have mild winters then I just went for all season tyres.

Zero snow here so far. I was bored today though and almost went for a drive as there's a ski resort an hour away (called Winterberg). It seems they have snow there at the moment.

We were there a few years ago and there was over a meter of snow and drifts a few meters high.

Had a Peugeot 306 1.9D that was running on veg oil... Took a bit of cranking to get it fired up 😂🤣

?
Are the Ski Resorts not closed for Ski-ing in Germany and also for visiting unless you live or work there.

Just as ickle snow lower down in the hills in my area so far.

SYKES?

I'm admitting nothing, but yes - I used to work for a customer of theirs and so back in 2006 or so I would be up there regularly.

I went back a few summers ago with the family and we stopped for a couple of days. Drove through to Älgfjällen, was very pleasant. Also went through Landvetter earlier this year to visit a customer of my present employer and that brought back a few memories :D

The resorts are closed and ski lifts too.

But there's nothing to stop someone driving there as we're not (nor ever have had) a full lock down preventing people going out.

Hello (hej) hansen1!

A fellow swede here! :)

Always have had studded Nokian-tires before, but almost everyone I spoke to preferred the studless versions. So, I had to try it for myself this time. Here in Skåne it’s rarely bad winterroads where I drive. I know that narrower tires is better in snow, but I like the look with 17” wheels and wider tires, so I bought 225/45R17 Nokian WR Snowproof on Dezent TA-rims. Last winter was the first I had these wheels, and they worked great in the mild winter that was.

Nice steel rims you got! And - is it Michelin tires you use?

Ha det!

@B284

Hello neighbour.

I have lived in Skåne for 10 years(Dalby) so I know what a wet winter roads you have.

I live in the more hilly parts of Dalsland,so for me studded tires are a must.

And yes Michelin X-Ice North 4 is my choise.

Your rims look very good.

  • 4 weeks later...

it arrived over the weekend here. I left the Octy still for a couple of days and see this...snowocty.thumb.jpg.cfc35d9c143b487c9c66d584c458f07a.jpg

Hope the doors aren’t frozen shut !

@brettikivi

The only good thing about snow is that it gets brighter outside ,otherwise there are no positive things

with snow.

I siliconed the doors earlier :)

-16 due this week, it's starting properly. Might also be able to do a decent Icetrack session or four this winter, too...

@brettikivi    -16,,,,, that is way to cold. The lowest we had here in Dalsland as i can remember was in 1996  -28C .

I see that you live higher upp than me,so I guess you are used to such temeratures.

That's the coldest I've experienced.

-16c overnight temperatures when we were in Winterberg in Germany once.

We were in our old Peugeot 306 1.9D and still had a 50/50 diesel/veg oil mix. Boy did that take some cranking to get started in the morning. Then drive straight to the fuel station to top up with diesel!

@Phil-E Everyone knows that people and cars do not like the cold.

My worst experience was when I was in the army (jägarsoldat,,,army ranger) 14 days in the field in the winter, temperature between -1 to -15.

The only thing we had to sleep in was a tent.

Ugh. Can't think of anything worse! Lol

Tested out my Hankook all season tyres today. Impressive. Not quite as much bite as my previous full winter tyres but I'll not get stuck and braking was still impressive.

Excuse the filming. Was a very quiet side country road with zero through traffic.

@Phil-E I have never owned all season tyres,so I have no experience whit them.Glad it worked out for you.

PS.....Page Not Found on your link!

I couldn't be bothered swapping them over all the time. We have pretty mild winters here and we're not completely reliant on the car and don't do many miles a year. So all seasons suite our needs while still being legal.

Edited the link.

Yes the link work now,,,,,and it looks like you got a good grip on the snow.

super slippery outside tonight - -6C and a few cm of snow cover, hardpacked on all side roads. Great with the SX4, not so much with the Octy. Oh, and ice rain on the way home Thursday evening - so -3C and rain :D

Expecting snow tomorrow morning.. Waiting for it more than Christmas :)

It is chillier tonight than is normal in Scotland from the North to the South, but milder weather is forecast from Sunday.

I now live in the hills above Matlock in Derbyshire and we had a brief period of heavy snow which began to settle.

I have a full set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons Gen 2 which I had from new in February. Ideal tyres for UK which mostly gets mild winters. They performed superbly on the snowy roads yesterday.

I have Goodyear eagle asymmetric tyres on mine and couldn't even get off my road.... 🤦🏻‍♂️ I've learnt for next time..

Man, these are summer tires.. Even all-season are compromise which you can take in UK and other countries with mild winter.

Winter tires are the recommended option.

Good that you learnt your lesson.

Sorry if I sound like your old grandma :D

looks pretty good here for the next 10 days or so:

Tuesday might be a little hairy - that's probably 10cm fresh snow after another 5-7 Monday. It's nice to actually see the sun again today :)
