Skoda fabia mk 2 2008 1.2 htp engine shakes at idle

Featured Replies

Hello,

New here.... Just purchased a used Skoda fabia mk 2 2008 1.2 htp from a dealership, has warranty and all... But realized that after 10-15 min drive, when stopping in traffic the engine shakes weirdly every few seconds, not always, but most of the time. When driving, works perfectly. Has all the power it should have. No other weird noises. It has even just gone through the road worthiness test and has a valid stamp until 2022.

Has any of you had a same kind of problem, or any suggestions what it could be? All welcome and well appreciated as a person who does not know much about cars.....

Thanks alot!

If this is your first three cylinder car then you'll notice it's not as smooth as a four cylinder engine, it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Exactly why I never bought a 3 cyl........to lumpy.

Two things to look at idle tick over speed should be at least 1000rpm due to the 3 cylinder set up and check all air filter connections for tightness, a common fault from lots of garages and dealerships as they disconnect to work on engine and don't seal them back correctly causing this sort of issue hope this helps--- as others said it is a tad shaky

What's the engine code Leevi? (Appears on the sticker near the spare wheel)

Is it the single camshaft 6-valve version or the twin cam 12-valve?

A shake every few seconds sounds too infrequent to be related to engine balance, so might be a fault. Can you get it scanned with VCDS?

Always good to check the brake servo vacuum hose for cracks and leaks on any VW group car.

In the mk1 HTP engines the fully warmed up idle speed is specified in the ranges as follows:

Engine codes AWY, BMD 610 - 830 rpm

AZQ, BME 580 - 800 rpm.

Does yours fit in one of these ranges? I don't have equivalent data for the Mk2 HTP versions.

Don't know where @Murdockman got his 1000+ information.

Here is a video, where you can see and hear how it shakes a bit more every now and then...

Many thanks again!
