Map Update

Featured Replies

Anyone with a new car MY21 managed to update the maps using the USB C ports.

I have tried but it does seem to show the update I have on my USB drive.

You mean it does, or it doesn't?

Sorry about that
It does not show the update files on my usb drive

same here...did you try with USB-C or the USB-A?

I’m sure the usb stick had to be formatted fat 32 on older systems.

I did the same...but nothing :-(

There's a thread on the Karoq forum where this is being discussed too. Based on @Jelugs chat with Skoda customer support, it looks like update via USB may not be possible at present. Not a definitive answer though by any means.

Cannot remember exactly, but earlier you could copy the whole folder to stick and update.

During last map update few weeks ago encountered the same problem

Formatted to fat32 just in case and copied the MIB folders and metadata to root directory and only then the update started.

I tried formatting the drive both ways but no luck.

Looked for other posts and see others with other Skoda cars are having problems.
Guess they didn’t think about updates when they remove the SD card slot.

Just have to wait for an OTA update if they do that or a fix from Skoda.

I never used SD car for map update, only USB stick.

Can't answer your question direct but two things jumped out at me when reading the question

1: Has the system requested an update? I was under the impression that MY21 year cars would either download new maps automatically or at least inform you an upgrade is available? I may be wrong with that assumption but I'm sure I read it somewhere in Skoda's blurb about their new infotainment software.

2: If it's a MY21 car, shouldn't it already have the latest maps installed when you received the car? Just checked my car, there are no new updates available.

on point 2 - yes it should...but my superB is a MY21 and has NAV DB version 19.11 and other users reporting they are on 20.16 - so there are updates available, but the system is not offering it as a downloadable update + the USB update is not working so kinda lost how we can update it

My navigation database is 20.10.

My car was built just before the date of the new update that is why I assumed there was an update for my car, also the update website shows the update when I put in my vin number.

Can see your predicament. Upgrade Portal only references MIB2 which of course is SDcard.  Might well be an oversight by Skoda.

Found it - it's in the user manual...    Perhaps it's a case of Skoda having been SimplyNotClever on this occasion. Will have a play around later tonight. ( If we contact Skoda Help no doubt they say take your car to Skoda centre ).

I was on erWin earlier today, and I saw that they have updated the documentation about performing MIB software updates, to reflect the fact that some cars will now be doing this vis USB-C rather than SD card. They don't seem to have updated the guidance regarding map updates in the same way though. I think it probably is just a temporary oversight.

Having read what @Scot5 has posted above from the user manual, it might be interesting to set a route destination in continental europe or somewhere further afield, to see if that prompts an auto-update.

It could well be an oversight. Perhaps they're looking toward the future by disabling physical update methods and making it an over-the-air subscription only sevice. Perhaps they've implemented this too soon or made it that only service centres are able to update via USB. Dunno, it's just a pure guess.

Modern technology eh?

My guess is they will want it to be a dealer only service and you will probably have to take it in to be updated, or it will be done during your service if done at Skoda dealer.

Or it will now be an on over the air update and you just have to wait untill it is your cars turn.

You may be on to something with that. Had a look around the Columbus system and found under notifications there was an update waiting. The update was to do with the SHOP widget and something else. Anyway hit update and it updated in the background.

Thing is, when I entered my VIN on the update portal, it said no updates were available. Perhaps that update portal is only for MIB2 equipped vehicles?

PS - don't ask me where I found 'notifications', I've tried looking for it again and can't find it. MIB3 isn't the most intuative of systems I've used.

When I put in my vin in the update portal is shows a 25 gig update and also shows radio logo updates.

Mine in an MIB3 I believe.

We might be going round in circles here.  What your update portal also says under STEPS is:

Which is obviously wrong for MIB3.  Sounds like you'll have to contact Skoda as their information is wrong.

I'll tell you something else that's wrong and that's Skoda Connect - it's having teething troubles too with MY21 year cars.

Kodiaq_status.JPG.5855a138a44f5289a1c1aaec4beb8734.JPG

My car is currently locked with all windows closed and the alarm set.  Last night Skoda Connect was saying the doors were closed but the windows open, tonight it's telling me the doors are open and windows are closed  :wall:.     No such problems with our MY20 Karoq but our MY21 Kodiaq? The software is crap.

I know that the info is wrong, just trying to find if there is a work around to update the maps as it does not seem to find the files via the USB ports. Maybe it is a glitch or they forgot to check it would update via them or don’t want us doing the update ourselves on the latest cars.

If the update portal shows an update then I assumed that it is for my car so just wanted to have the latest version.

My connect app seems to be fine. Always shows the correct info when I look at it.

I asked about it on Twitter and got this reply from Škoda

Hi, we apologise about this issue. It is something we are aware of and it has been raised with the relevant teams who are working to resolve it.

So hopefully it will be sorted allowing us to do updates.

I've been told a few things.

1: Online update isn't showing as available right now.

2: The latest version of map software is 20.11

3: They found information that suggests an update can be performed via the USB-C port.

Unfortunately I can't check the latter. The zip file is over 25gb but I only have a 16gb stick.  I've over 100GB of free space left on my phone but of course that's not FAT32 so doubt it'll work.

I've tried the using the USB-C port to update the maps with a stick formatted with various file systems - no joy.
