Octavia MK3 (2015) - aftermarket stereo?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Has anyone had any joy replacing the head unit/stereo in their MK3 Octavia?

I have a 2015 ('65 plate) SE Business Estate and I've noticed that this time of year the touch screen seems to work intermittently.

Ideally with an aftermarket unit, I'd like to keep the sat nav, or at the very least Android Auto so I can use Google Maps on my phone.

Many thanks.

Loads on Aliexress or eBay. I have an Alpine

Yes, you need an MY16 or above to utilise Android Auto or Apple Carplay. This can be enabled on a Bolaro/Amunsden or Columbus unit of your era. You also need an 'App' button on your system to make this work. It will cost you about 120ukp for a Software License code from your dealer.

Failing that, I remember seeing that Kenwood did a formal headunit and screen upgrade (around 500ukp) for early Mk3's which gave you Garmin GPS services.

Mine is a '65 plate but registered 31st Jan 2016 - IIRC it does have the Android Auto option but when you select it it says a license is required.

As I say the biggest issue is that the touch screen is sometimes nonresponsive when it's cold. If the car is warm the screen works fine.

I've heard that there's quite a big air gap behind the screen as the "guts" are in the glovebox, so wondering if it'd be worth removing the screen and putting some sort of insulation behind it?

Happens to me quite often, and its not that cold either... around 2-3 C and screen stops reacting. Luckily dials work so I can wiggle out of stuck screen with those. Weird...

Okay. So it sounds like you have a solution. A software license from your dealer for Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

The other thing is the screen. I would need to confirm whether it is possible but if you can get hold of a non-buttoned screen from a FL model, I think it is plug and play. Expect to pay 300 to 400ukp or about 450euros for a modern screen.@pab567@pab567

The other option is to see if there is a firmware update for your system which might improve the system performance.
