Under Bonnet Liner-Mat

Featured Replies

I have a 2020 Fabia 3 SEL 1.0 litre (110bhp) estate and I'm purchasing various items to improve the sound insulation inside the car.

To my surprise there isn't a liner under the bonnet, just bare metal.  I believe previous models (1 and 2) had a liner.  There doesn't appear to be a liner for my car that Skoda sell.

Has anyone found one that does?

I've read somewhere that occasionally a part for a Golf or Seat will fit a Skoda, but it's not listed as available by a Skoda dealer.

I know I can (and will) put sound deadening pads under the bonnet anyway, but a proper liner will look better covering those.

That is good news!

As an aside, is yours petrol or diesel?  It might be they are still fitted on a Fabia MK3 diesel but not petrol.

It’s a 1.0 tsi

My local dealer is adamant there is no liner listed for my car so he can't order one.

I told him about your 2017 Fabia having one but he said it won't fit.

Could you put up a pic of yours and if yours looks right, I'll risk purchasing one against the dealers advice?

6V0863831 what's a part number for bonnet sound proofing panel you want. Mine came without, so I bought it myself. Easy to put in and came with clips. Did not notice much difference in noise levels tho. I would say save the money.

Excellent thank you Paul.

What model and year is your Fabia?

I want the liner more to cover up all the Noico soundproofing pads I've put under the bonnet.  If the liner adds any extra sound absorption, then that'll be a bonus, but at the moment the under bonnet looks somewhat daft.

Mine is 2016 estate with 1.2 petrol engine. Bonnet is the same as yours. Tell dealer you want that part. How much money they ask? I bought mine from Ebay few years back for something like £35 delivered.

My 68 plate S EL came with one fitted

No issue with sound on the petrol models :-)

Ordered mine today from the local dealer using the part number you gave me. The price was £15 including the clips.

Thank you for your help!

I wanted to mount this in my F3 2022, but seller told me that manufacturer didn't mount one in factory due to safety issues. Allegedly it could cause problems with cooling and even catch on fire. Has anyone heard about it or seller is wrong? This info is not from official dealer.

Hi, thanks for feedback! Would love to hear your dealer comment on it. I will probably contact one as well. I believe this is the same as part as the one I'm planning to buy: 6V0863831.

In store they said it's especially problematic for petrol engines and I'm driving F3 Combi 1.0 TSI (DKLD) hence my confusion. I asked another store about the same thing and they said, they've never heard about anything like that before. Interesting...

My dealer informed me that, according to the manufacturer’s specifications, ETKA does not list an insulation mat for this particular vehicle. The mat was only fitted to vehicles with PR code 2B1 (additional exterior sound insulation).

And they said it's fine to install it.

In general, at least my experience of dealing with VW Group parts departments, they will not accept your request to order in something that was not fitted originally to your car - probably to protect themselves and the brand from any issues that might arise.

So, to avoid getting into that situation, I've always done my own "due diligence" and just asked them to order in from the part number that I've supplied without handing over any vehicle info, I've always known that if the part that I've got them to order in was not suitable then it was my fault and so I'd not be able to return it for some refund.

Once I ordered in a pair of new TREs for my wife's 2002 VW Polo 1.4 16V part numbers sourced from a knock off copy of EKTA found on ebay - just a pity I didn't check the suitability of the parts selected - they were for a non-Powered Steering model, I did get a small amount of money back after handling charges, I only made that mistake once!

That's interesting, thanks for sharing! In my case, I've provided dealer my VIN and the part number, they confirmed it was not fitted originally but they've shown no resistance and confirmed I can fit it myself. So they ordered the part and just today I've picked it up from dealer.
